Maverick road debris damage.
On a trip last week coming south in IA on 218 we hit something that was on the road. Dashcam pic you can see it - possibly a 6" pipe nipple???? Wrench - I don't know. Heard a BANG and the wife and I are both OH CRAP what was that????
Wife could see something flapping in the wind at the rear right wheel. I was checking the tire pressure and everything seemed to be ok.
Pulled over and found the stone deflector was hanging on by a thread from the rocker panel guard. I looked at the tire and it seemed to be fine no gouges or damage that I could see. I cut the stone deflector off and we continued on.... (LUCKY!)
No freaking idea how whatever it was on the road took out the stone deflector (it seems to be a very appropriate name at this time!) and did NOT damage the tire.
Got home and inspected the damage and again pretty lucky the only damaged parts were the two plastic parts.
NZ6Z-6011398-C Stone Deflector
NZ6Z-60101A04-A Rocker Panel Guard
Searched the internet and found a couple places a whole lot cheaper than the local dealer. Found FordPartsOnSale.com and the shipping was reasonable = ordered the parts. Came a few days later - and installed them Wednesday this week.
Relatively easy to replace - plastic pins removed using plastic pry tools. The clips at the bottom of the rocker panel guards are a bit weird and hard to get out correctly you have to grab it twist then pull. First one nope second one yep.
The part comes with the clips so that was great. The plastic rivets (2) I did replace with what I had here at the house.
Anyway - I got lucky that the tire was not shredded and nothing but the plastic parts were damaged. Probably about $130/140 for parts and shipping.
