Road trip
Get some gas
Stretch the legs
Go to the restroom
Grab a snack
There are a few variables that could change that.
Location and closeness to a gas station.
Camping at a remote location off-grid and touring around the area but not close to a gas station.
You might want to fill auxiliary tank if the fuel cheaper.
When I was flying. If fuel was extremely expensive at our destination and we could afford the weight. We would tanker in fuel.

Yeah, I don't know about storing fuel in the passenger compartment.
I had a old Ford truck that had two gas tanks one of them being in the cab behind the seat back. I was not crazy about the idea but to each their own.
Similar to this Chevy.

My old 1972 Ford F100 had a tank like that. You could hear fuel sloshing around 😮 It was a great truck, until my son wanted a V8 and an automatic transmission installed. 😢 That ruined it, in my opinion.

I know there is a company that makes an aux tank for the Ranger - it is extremely high end build - fits behind rear bumper/hitch with no modifications and fills with stock gas filler and requires no switch to access the fuel - can't remember the co or how big the tank is but I recall it might be around $1,500 plus install. - 700 mile plus range - that would be nice - but a real shocker to fill up today

🤔 their too busy texting or looking at their phone to notice
My personal experiences that folks who are texting or on hold their phones talking, tend to drive slower than the traffic around them.
Tailgaters on the other hand, seem to be very FOCUSED. Seeing how close they can get to the back of your vehicle. In order to try and intimidate you out of the way. At which point your obligated to say, 'Go get 'em tiger! 😆

Reach out to Titan, who makes extended range tanks. Your big concern is gasoline tanks. Not many build for gasoline. Many do diesel.

Titan's, S&B, (and other's) extended tanks are for diesel.

The reason Titan and others don't make any extended range gas tank is that the gas tank is part of the vehicle's certified Emissions Control system which is Federally and CARB regulated.

They would have to go through a ton of testing (in conjunction with the OEM) and costly certifications that could take months/years..

There is an Australian company who some have tried, it may be searchable on the Net

I was considering a tank for my TRX, but the juice was not worth the squeeze..

Unless someone makes a tailored kit for the Mav, there's no reasonable way to do it without giving up bed space (temporarily for the trip). if it were mounted under body there would need to be a custom fill port, and a transfer setup with a pump and switch. (unless lowering the spare, pulling the tank, filling, putting back, raising spare.... sounds like an hour process.

Reasonable options:
bed rack with Roto-Pax fuel containers.
temporary transfer tank in bed.
jerry cans.
trip planning.

I can get 470-ish miles on a tank in my EB, if i drive gently in Normal Mode without CC on.

There's always trade offs. I personally wouldn't want additional fuel hanging out in the ass end of these unibodys, they're kind of soft and looks like they take it in rear often.

The standard tank in a Ecoboost is good for more than 400 miles.
