Personally I have zero NEED to upgrade from my Maverick. BUT, here's some things I don't have that might make me make a change:

-Better infotainment system. We all know the base 8" system on the 2022-24 XL and XLT Mavericks is trash.
-Better safety: I've got 360 cameras on my other vehicle, but only a back up camera on my Maverick
-More useful plug in the bed. 400w on the Maverick is not good for much
-The mid gate. Ideally the Fathom would have a rear window that retracts into the mid gate before it folds so you have a full opening. Fixed glass where the mid gate lowers below would be limiting, and the complicated system in the Chevy Silverado EV is too much.
- A V2H system, not that I use it on my current EV
- A frunk. Exterior lockable storage without taking up room in the bed would be great
- AWD - wasn't an option on my '22 hybrid
- Higher quality interior. The Maverick looks good but it's all cheap hard plastic. I know this is a fantasy that I will not get

I'm very interested in the Fathom, pending it's final iteration. If the spec's are in line with the Mav, I would consider switching. Of course, availability, actual OTD price, and other factors will also influence if/when I would consider it. I'm watching it very closely... The Mav will be hard to trump from a value perspective, but we shall see....

This is a hypothetical question since no one has seen a real life "Fathom" yet.

We don't even know its capabilities.

Part of the reason being an early adopter sucks, because both of those are solved on a 25+

The fathom looks like it checks a lot of boxes, and I hope it's successful so I can get one someday, but it certainly won't be the first model year, ESPECIALLY on a new category entry.

That wouldn't stop me. I've had several recent first model, first iteration vehicles ('22 Mav, '15 2.7 F150, etc..), they have been some of the best, trouble-free vehicles. Statistically, you may be right, but practically, it's irrelevant, especially within the last 10-15 years, IMO.

I like the feature suggestions like mid gate. But I think the likelyhood that it has a lot of features or better interior is low. Most electric vehicles cheap out on interior because the battery is so expensive. Compare a KIA EV9 to a telluride, it’s crazy how cheap the ev9 feels.

I do not think it will be more premium. I think they need to show they can build a EV. I would hope from a spec sheet, maybe it out performs the Maverick. If it can tow 6k or have a load of 2000 lbs or a higher hitch weight rating I would be interested.

Personally my favorite setup is range extended EV like the Scout truck that has yet to hit the market. I know they are not doing that, but that is my favorite.

If the fathom comes out and it can meet the range of the Slate and have the performance or better of the Maverick, I would be interested.

Sometimes the first MY are the best.

The manufacturer has more to lose.
The manufacturer has more to prove.
A screw up in year one could doom the whole lineup, reputation wise.

So first year sometimes get better quality before they start cutting corners.

I'll take a late build in year one please.

Maybe, had the '22 maverick been available when I needed a vehicle I probably would've gotten it as well, but I'm glad that choice was taken out of my hands because I think the refresh is better.

Cars are becoming more and more like computers, especially something electric. You have an issue with an early one then the dealer is your only choice, no matter how many weeks they tell you it's going to take to diagnose/fix/wait for parts etc, because realistically even the Ford techs at the dealer won't have any damn clue about it for at least a few years, and you're certainly not taking it to your local mechanic for anything anything besides the simplest of things, and even then I wouldn't be surprised if they dont even want to touch it.

Hopefully it's smooth sailing, if you have the money then yeah absolutely -- have at it, we need people like you, somebody's gotta buy the damn thing if its gonna be a success to line up another.

That's called a Maverick Hybrid!!!
What I REALLY would want and would get me to trade in, is a plug in hybrid maverick... same exact thing except a 50-80mi ev only range that I can plug into an outlet to charge overnight, but don't need to.

I'm a fan of the Mav, but also a big believer in EVs. If the Mav would have been available as an EV I'd probably have gone that route. Instead we have both a 25 Mav AWD hybrid lariat with 4K town + we have a 24 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Limited (2-motor AWD). The Ioniq gets 95% of the drives with the truck when we need truck stuff or we take a road trip since it's easier once you're away from home charging.

I like the utility of the trucklet with it's small bad and modest towing it covers all of my casual home-owner needs including towing a small 5x10 tilt trailer and AWD covers the times we're snowed in (we're in the sticks, so we're the last to get roads clear after our annual snow week).

I also love Ioniq 6 with the low, low operating costs, the low maintenance, instant torque, quiet and powerful (0-60 under 5 secs) performance. We have 220 Level 2 charger in our garage so we're able to top off every night, get 300+ miles around town and all for about 1/4 the cost of gas.

Most important is the reduced & displaced emissions of the EV - They're not perfect but they are, without debate, no matter what fossil fuel/right wing propaganda is spouted, proven to be more environmentally beneficial from cradle to grave over a comparable ICE vehicle. That's actually important to me, my kids and grandkids approve.

A couple of years ago I wouldn't have considered having an EV as my only vehicle. Great for around town as long as you can 240v charge at home, but was a pain in the ass for road trips due to the lack of reliable, available level-3 high speed charge stations along the interstate, at least in the deep south where we live.

Just in the last year or two, there are now plenty of new, high speed, reliable level-3 EV charging options as long as you stick to major interstate. This finally makes having a single vehicle EV that's the best choice for around town, at least practical for longer trips too. EV charging on a road trip won't be any cheaper than buying gas, and sure won't be faster, BUT it's do-able. If I need to take a couple extra 30 minute stops on a 500 mile trip it's a small price to pay compared to owning, maintaining, registering, and insuring 2 vehicles.

The Fathom appears to be a vehicle that can scratch both itches for me. Trucklet for trucklet stuff (assuming 3,500lb+ towing and AWD) + a smallish affordable EV for the 95% of the intown trips.

I'd probably wait a couple of years, but I can see myself selling off both my Mav and Ioniq 6 and consolidating my stable into one Fathom.
