I posted the following to accompany the article when it showed up on Yahoo News.

Failure. No, I doubt that Ford considers it a failure, and most likely, sales performance is exactly what Ford expects considering the material constraints the industry has experienced.

Yes, I own a Maverick. I ordered one in October of 2021 and received it 35 days later on November 10, 2021. I looked at the constraints at the time and ordered what Ford would build, including the 2.0 Ecoboost engine.

The Maverick is the right truck for me at the right time. I'm retired and do not need a $70,000 truck these days. I haul cleared brush to the burn pile in our rural community and trash to the landfill a couple of times a month. How could the truck be a failure when it does exactly what I need it to do and at a much lower cost.

We were without power for six days last week and the little Maverick with its 400W inverter kept our 18V Ryobi batteries and 56V EGO batteries for a 2000W inverter charged. It just sat there in the Texas heat and purred all day long for 5+ days. Again, it does what I need.

I've had my Maverick for 19 months and the new has not worn off. Somewhat of a change from. I still enjoy driving it, using it to haul my mundane things, and tinkering with it. It still holds my excitement at owning one. Although excitement about much of anything is probably a concept Mr. Steven Symes doesn't get. For that, I feel sorry for him.
Dude (article author) is just an opinionated JACKASS.
Maybe some Maverick owners have another bigger truck for their heavier truck duties?
And good luck using an SUV or mini van for items that belong in an open bed, friggen wanker!!

Ford created a whole new market just like the original Mustang did. My Son works at the Ford dealership and talked to the corporate brass they said they had no idea it would be such a hit and really wasn’t prepared to sell that many

Mine replaced a C-Max and a Frontier 4x4. I already had and have an F150 for the big stuff. I’ve hauled more fuel and feed in the Maverick than the big truck ever did. For furniture, lumber, etc. we use the F150. The Maverick is our Ranchero😉.

It's obvious that Ford doesn't have a clue why.
You price it as the lowest price in your lineup, give it 40+ MPG, and wonder if it will sell?

I drive mine a lot, and I see small Ford compacts that retailed for $10K more than I paid...

The real question ot me is why did they price it so cheap? They could have increased the price by $5K to 10K and still sell out.

Dumb.

I think they thought a unibody pickup might not attract traditional truck buyers -- not realizing a lot of folks are just sick of big trucks. I think they really thought they were going to only get the folks who were shopping for small cars, and not buyers who would have previously bought, like, a Ranger.

For me, Unibody vs. Body on Frame pretty much had 0% bearing on my decision to buy a Maverick. It looks like a truck, can work like a truck, and can get 40+ MPG for the Hybrid model. I've always had a soft spot for compact trucks too. I have a friend who had an S-10 for some time and as a city truck it was very useful due to its small size.

The Maverick's a winner by any objective measurement and in hindsight, Ford should have realized they had an absolute winner on their hands that they were caught unprepared for the amount of demand for the vehicle. Hopefully the third shift in Hermosillo is mostly dedicated towards Maverick production and not for the Bronco Sport, which seems to be piling up in dealerships now.

So the article is just clickbait nonsense declaring it a "failure" for fairly asinine reasons. You think the consumers who ordered it really care about the distinction between "unibody" vs "body on frame" as to whether or not it's a "real truck"?

I also read this article yesterday and thought "what is this guy smoking?" A couple points he made were valid, but most of it was purely opinion or just flat out wrong.

And the way he wrote it just makes him sound like a complete tool. I guess he succeeded in getting clicks and being edgy. So good for him?

I would not own a pickup today if the Maverick didn't exist. He's forgetting the demographic who have never owned a truck, but appreciate the practicality of them, if only the current offerings weren't so freaking huge and cost half a house.

Maybe an off-topic comment, but I hope Ford is just being careful about ramping up production without the proper quality control measures in place. Let''s go with that!

I have found that many Yahoo News articles are mostly opinion and not backed by facts. I gave up on Yahoo news being creditable and taking their articles with a grain of salt. Lots of "clickbait". I have also noticed the editing is lackluster.

Check out this article. It makes a good point about Ford not really wanting to produce more Mavericks. The rest is mostly hyperbole.

Yes, the writter was clearly hurt by something and has an axe to grind.
But I've heard his assertion that the main reason to buy a truck is hauling and towing
by many of the 8 foot tall truck owners who want 15,000 pound of towing capacity.
Many of us don't need that.
And 1,500 pound hauling capacity is way more than my old Ranger has - a wildly popular truck
that Ford mistakenly discontinued in 2011.
But I totally agree with him in that Ford does not want to sell many of these trucks.
Closing ordering in 4 days? Making maybe 80,000 trucks for the whole year?
Ford sold 560,000 mustangs in 1965 when it was obvious with the 1964 1/2 year model people wanted them. They knew from the 2022 model people wanted them. They keep saysing they were suprised by the demand. BS.
They would far more want to sell you an F150 for $75,000. They make way more than 3 times the profit than from a $25,000 maverick.
I think they now believe it was a mistake to offer this truck.
They arn't selling any Rangers now because of this, their strategy of limiting this truck is now going to backfire as other manufactutes rush to fill this needed gap - and nobody who wants to buy a Maverick is going to buy an F150 because they can't get it.
And they have made so many Ford haters over this. My god if I could get this kind of truck from anywhere else but Ford I sure would.
So yeah, the Maverick is a failure - for Ford marketing, they planned this.
No one could be this stupid, it had to be planned this way.

Ford jacks up the hybrid base price a little more each year, when it hits $35,000 they will probably be willing to produce more.

sad but unfortunately true

When an author starts name-calling and/or stereotyping people, I tend to stop reading...
Wasn’t that “author” just an poster here?

I’ve honestly been waiting for Ford to do the
“Sorry the Maverick program is canceled due to no demand “

It’s happened before in these same circumstances, but in this internet age hopefully we can hold them accountable to keep a popular vehicle in production without BS like the “author “ is peddling

I was a bit dismissive of this article (after having read it completely) in my post above but I want to clarify that I don't mean to be dismissive of your post - I appreciate you sharing the article with us here.

I think it's interesting that people suggest Ford doesn't want to produce more Mavericks but I don't think it's accurate. Case in point - Ford added a third shift at the plant. They literally put more investment into doing exactly the opposite.

Would Ford prefer to sell you a more profitable vehicle instead? Well sure! But they're not new to this - they've been selling vehicles for a while now and they know that not everyone can (or will) buy the more expensive models. In fact, the same video cited by the author discusses this: F-150s are beginning to stack up on dealer lots. ...and that's a problem.

I don't know exactly what Ford's strategy is for the Maverick. Maybe it's to offer something to compete with the used truck market or maybe it's a tactic to win customers away from foreign brands. It could also be a tool to start building a loyalty base with buyers who have just started earning income. Whatever the case - I think it's a bit unreasonable to suggest that this company would introduce and then continue to invest in manufacturing more of a new product that they actually don't want to produce more of. From where I sit, it just doesn't sound like this author has really thought through his arguments.
With this guys attitude, EVERYTHING is a failure.
