I was out visiting customers today (specifically what I bought my hybrid for) and had a nice lady in a Nissan fail to yield and made a left turn in front of me, resulting in a near head-on crash.

I caught a ride home, grabbed my other car and went to the ER. To my surprise I don't have broken ribs but have torn muscles. I've broken ribs before and this feels like it.

Body shop early estimate is $15k in airbags, $15k in body and paint. I'll have more next week but its an XL Hybrid that repair parts aren't readily available for, you can do the math.

Life is fragile my friends. This wasn't scary but things happen quick, especially when they're something you can't avoid.

Total loss for sure..... Glad you weren't hurt worse..... I hope you are busy getting "comps" to help her insurance with the valuation if they try to lowball you!!!

Thankful you are ok and sorry about the Maverick! It looks like it protected you overall. I hope none of us ever have to experience an even more serious wreck, but if so, it seems these little trucks do ok.

Did you wait forever for it, or find it on the lot? I waited 18 months for my hybrid, in part due to my decision to ad lux package.

If you are offered a choice to repair or total it, let it go. You will be chasing rattles, pulls, and fading paint forever.

At initial estimate of $30k, repair is not even an option. It is definitely totaled and I would not consider it as a salvage.

Curious who was found at fault in this accident? I mean she looks through the intersection while turning left but I wasn't there and am only looking at the pictures of damages to her passenger side which could appear that you seen her but still kept going to prove your point that you had the right of way. Defensive driving can save a lot of hassle.

I had someone almost change lanes into my bright yellow Monte Carlo Pace car 20 years ago. I was right next to him driving bumper to bumper. It's almost like the bright color draws them in.

If someone turns left in front of you when you're going 45mph there is no possible way to stop in time. It's not about "proving a point".

Go watch the car crash videos on Youtube, this mistake is pretty frequent.

Happened to my ex-wife just weeks after she got her driver license (in her 20s), she was traveling straight in left lane, light turned yellow so other woman coming towards her panicked and went, my Ex t-boned her without being able to stop. Just like this picture looks.

People going straight always have right of way, people turning left must yield, even if the light turns red. But again, dashcams don't lie- plenty of evidence on Youtube that lots of people don't understand that....

Pictures are painful to look at. Glad you're ok . . . everything else can be repaired or replaced. Hopefully, another Maverick will appear in your driveway sooner than later.
People are driving much too fast these days! Unintended consequence from vehicles with better suspension, more comfortable interiors and better handling. Back in the day of the 50's, 60's & 70's, most cars drove like beasts and driving faster than 60 was a putting your life in danger experience.

As much as I hate the constant advertising by all these ambulance chasing accident attorneys, this may be an instance where it might be worth looking into legal council to deal with the other driver's insurance company.

You have injuries, pain, and suffering; You have a vehicle that cannot be replaced at MSRP without waiting for many months; You had time consuming modifications; and finally, you have plenty of witnesses that indicate the other driver was at fault.

Something to think about.
