You need to blow off all the junk at least and take it to an independent mechanic for another opinion, and don't balk at paying 1-2 hours of labor to have it diagnosed depending on what they say (good mechanics that can diagnose electrical problems accurately DO NOT work for free).

You can't really sell a vehicle with a no start major problem anyway without taking a massive financial hit, on top of whatever it cost to acquire a new vehicle.

My advice is do not throw the baby out with the bath water. You had a horrible experience with a dealer but that is not the trucks fault. These are good trucks Hybrids and Eco's but OEM batteries many folks have had issues with, you are not the first nor the last. I have an Eco and my battery needed replacing first year.

I stay away from dealers mostly because their rates are too rich for my blood.

There is one thing that is much more delicious to rodents than soy based wiring and the smell is so irresistible to them they cannot stand it. It's called peanut butter and I too find the stuff irresistible. :D Old school wood based traps with the larger bait tray, they put their paws on and boom the iron bar makes for an automatic see ya later.

I had a rodent problem too. Not chewing on the wires but crapping on top of the engine and packing in acorns and chewing them up and just making a big mess. Under the hood of my Maverick and Transit. Ordered this: Amazon.com : LIPHA TECH FirstStrike Rodent Bait 10g - 4lb Bag (31113) : Patio, Lawn & Garden
Put 1 under my hood of both trucks. Gone the next morning, first night. That was last November. Had no problems until last month. Did the same thing again. No problem at the moment. ☮

If you are letting your car sit long enough that a bird can build a nest in it, you are going to have battery problems in any car. Since you don't drive it a lot, I would recommend starting the truck up every couple of weeks and let it idle for a few minutes. This will help keep the battery charged. Else, you could get a trickle charger to keep the 12V battery charged.

I know this doesn't resolve any past issues, but it might help prevent future issues.

1. Ford corporate will do nothing for you. I spent months chasing them when one of their dealers left parts off of my side airbag recall. Lie after lie after lie. No calls and follow-ups for weeks.

2. Clean up your engine bay. It's atrocious. Will make it easier to find issues, if they exist.

3. Modern batteries are crap. Maintain them by hooking them up to a charger if you don't drive often.

4. Batteries can be had relatively cheap. Easy to change. Not a big deal.

5. Report your local dealer to your Attorney General office for fraud.

Do you have a copy of your service estimate? Would be very interesting to see how they wrote up the work order/estimate to get $ 9,000 bucks And let us know the name of the Ford Dealer sometime so we can avoid them!
dealer (mechanic/service writer?) should be charged criminally for an attempt to obtain money by false pretenses!

This post is looking like "Swiss cheese"...

He spend $700 on a NEW 12v battery??
The Hybrid 12v is a small one compared to the Eco's.
I plan on (preventative maintenance) replacing my Eco's AGM (with an exact match) in September. As it will be four years old in October.
MY Rangers' batteries lasted 4.5 - 5 years...
It will only cost me, $250 (exact match) and THATS from a local FORD dealer.. 😦

I'm sorry you had a bad DEALER experience. Personally I would have cleaned out the straw.. Why give them a reason? Definitely not blaming you, and it absolutely sucks that bad dealers turn customers off to a whole brand.

Those poisoned rodents were then probably eaten by a family cat, dog, coyote, fox owl, eagle, or other raptor. And they are now dead as well. Good job.
