I lived in the mountains years ago before the hybrid Maverick existed. I know how to drive a regular auto or stick transmission in the mountains or anywhere else for that matter, but with the advanced tech of the eCVT, I was hoping for some 'what's the best mode to use' advice. Maybe I should have been more clear.

You can use Normal and apply the brakes or Eco mode and feather the gas or brake. Eco provides the most control going downhill. Move the seat up and work the throttle in Eco. Try both and see what you like.

Hill Descent Control will apply whatever regen it can up to max to maintain the speed set when you took foot off the Go pedal.

So what mode you are in going downhill doesn't matter.

When the HVB is full, and the engine braking is used - it can be less resistance than max regen depending on the slope - so you will have to get into the pads then.
Or it may be just enough on it's own.

Going up - how far do you want to press the Go pedal for more power?
What are you used to using?
Use that one.

I drove through the mountains in North Carolina (including the Tail of the Dragon) farily recently and found that Normal mode seemed to be the best mode. Eco was underpowered and Sport was too much. Slippery mode worked well also. The great thing was that I still averaged 41.5 mpg with a 25 hybrid AWD.

Thank you. Sounds like good advice.
