Lane Keeping System Observations,

I thought you were talking crap about the bottle so I tried it on the way home from work for at 8 miles and dang the alert never came on once. It did alot more correcting than when my hands are on it but I had drank from the bottle and didnt let the air out. Not sure how you thought of it but clever. Kinda scary that it worked!

3 days a week I drive the same 4 lane to and from work. Never any traffic.
In 15 miles, one stop light. Zah !

The road meanders from 1500 ft above sea level to 2100

Lane keeping system on over a one month average I get 22.5-23.5 mpg’s.
Mind you my engine is not broken in yet.

System off I’m getting 24.5-25.5 mpg.
Consistently.
It cancels when a turn lane shows up.
Every now and then I can feel the tires scrubbing speed as it randomly wanders side to side for a few hundred feet.

Eating tires,
Burning more gas,
Struggling to stay focused,
All the while diminishing our critical driving skills.

That’s it, I will never try and use it for anything more than a way to text and pick my nose at the same time

I turned my lane keeper on once by accident and found it irritating but it didn't do anything detrimental. Haven’t used it on purpose since. I'm with you on all the nanny aids but I use my motorcycle a lot which has nothing but power and handling so I can deal with the nanny aids since I have limited exposure. The intrusion isn't limited to our Mavericks, it's everywhere.

Because of your post I went back to the manual, then played around with the settings. I finally figured out you need to go features and disable lane centering to enable lane keeping on a MY26 Lariat.

Hahahahaha! Yesterday, because of this thread, I went back in there and turned it on for the 15 minute drive to and from my local dive bar.

That's odd.

On my 2022 Lariat I always have Lane keeping on, only engages above 40 mph.

I turn lane centering/ ACC on manually when I want to use it.

Because of this thread, I went to a nearby road with several gentle curves and let ACC and lain centering drive it. It drove about 2 miles without incident. However, if that is the way anyone drives, they are not a very good driver.

Besides my 26 Maverick Lariat, I also have a 2023 Chevy Equinox LT that has lane keeping assistance. My Equinox is not as aggressive, will allow me to stay a little closer to the right white line, and does not get confused by turning lanes. My Maverick keeps itself what it thinks is dead center of the lane, and will fight you if you think differently. If there is a turn out on a highway on my left side, the system gets confused and starts veering over towards the turn out lane until we get past it, and then jerks over towards the right. My Equinox does not get confused. I stopped using the lane assist in the Maverick. It does a good job of maintaining distance behind a vehicle with the variable cruise control, but it gets a "F" for lane keeping.

I only use the alert function of Lane Keep Assist. A gentle vibration and I know to correct. I also turned ACC off because I like to time my passes of slower cars.

My 2018 Mustang and former 2022 Escape all handled lane centering better than my Mav. The Mustang has 3 levels of autocorrect "severity" that can be set that I wish the Mav had. 7 years later it's a step backwards.....

There is sensitivity settings buried in that big ol dash. I did try turning the aggressiveness down but it still was following turn outs and aggressive centering. If you let it drive with a light touch on the steering wheel so you don't get tired fighting it, it thinks you are driving with no hands on it. Warning flashes then. I shared my experience with Ford on a review they sent, but not holding my breath for them to tweak the system. As mentioned before, my 2023 Equinox is great with that feature. The Maverick's steering does feel heavier and needs a little more effort than the Equinox, so that could factor in. They are both electric assist, but one is a truck with a heavier engine and transaxle than the other.

I love the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. But I also realize it's for the open road out on the Highway. If you have frequent stops such a 65 mph speed limit with a red light or 2, I just tap the brake and handle the stop and reaccellerate and resume after I'm back up to speed. I don't like the hard acceleration if I leave it up the truck. Just have to manage it a little and it works great. Here in Austin Texas with rampant construction and lane closures it sure helps me stay in my lane, especially at night where things can get hard to see. So to me it's great technology but limited and if you use it right it's a fantastic driving aid.

Agree, ACC & lane centering are driving aids, to be used sparingly but not constantly. Lane centering feature is great on long trips, on many roads, but I frequently cancel it. And like MavstangVA said, mine seems to hug the centerline a tad. I don't use it in even reasonably heavy traffic. ACC acceleration & braking are not conducive to conservative hybrid driving.

2 weeks after getting our 23 Lariat loaded with electronics we went to NJ . Used the Advanced CC on Pa turnpike but wasn't real imprsssed. Turned off for Jersey TP . Haven't used since. Still have to keep hand's on the wheel. I still like it that way.
