I am, in all probability, some sort of clod-brained user. So I thought I'd document my thick-headedness publicly.

On the 2026 Lariat, there is one button on the steering wheel which controls both the lane keeping assist *and* the lane centering assist (the former is standard, the latter is part of CoPilot 360 2.0 and works only with Adaptive Cruise Control enabled)

Since I find the lane centering to be kind of annoying I leave it off - but I did not know that if I press the same button when adaptive cruise control is not active, it disables the lane keeping assist. I must have missed the popup on the screen when I pressed the button.

I did not realize it until I got a little distracted and wandered over the line on the right side and noticed I did not feel the warning come through the steering wheel.

I read the manual and now I know better.

I find the Ford version very annoying when compared to my 2023 Chevy Equinox. My Equinox will gently nudge me back over and is not concerned about being exactly centered in my lane. I like to favor the shoulder side of the lane and my Equinox does not mind me doing so. The Ford version is very strict on centering, even with the aggression settings in Sync4 set to the lowest settings. I have also experienced the system throwing my vehicle over into turnout lanes on both sides of the vehicles, which can be dangerous. I have quit using the lane centering for that reason. The adaptive cruise control works really well. The lane keeping soft needs tweaking. I sent a message regarding the issue in Ford's feedback app in the Sync4 system, but who knows if anybody listens to them.

Turn both of mine off on my '26 Mav Lariat. Do like adaptive cruise.
That’s because we still have good driving skills and don’t get sucked into our phone or that dam infotainment trap in the middle of the dash board.
I turn my screen off often because that
helps me feel my Maverick and the road.

I noticed you have the 2024 which I would be happier with myself than my 2026 due to the infotainment system containing almost everything. The 2025 & 2026 has all of the HVAC controls. I find myself spending too much time with my eyes off the road trying to set the temperature on a screen that is finicky, turning off the heated steering wheel when I don't need it, divert the air ducts, set fan speed, and that is without trying to get an automatic map on my display to get out of the way that I do not seem to be able to eliminate in settings. Ford is suppose to have an AI helper like Apple's Siri or Amazon's Alexa. but I can't get it to work. I find myself enjoying my older 2023 Equinox with manual controls more than this new fandangled 13" Sync 4 screen. A working lane keeping system would be helpful IF it worked as it should.

I find the lane centering very helpful on my 25 Maverick. I wished my 25 Mazda cx-5 had this feature--only the top end trim of Mazda has this feature.

I'm with you. Digital controls would be a deal breaker if ever I needed to upgrade from my current 2022 Maverick. I think Ford did a disservice to it's customers by eliminating the physical controls and crowding the screen with distractions.

You'll toss that lane keeping crap the first time you go to avoid a "gator" or other trash in the middle of your lane and find how hard it fights you! I don't mind the "Stick Shaker" one bit if I happen to get a little close to either line but I think I'll make the directional decisions, thank you.
BTW, I am a huge fan of the adaptive cruise control though I've learned to recognise spots where it gets a little overzealous! I just click it off for those hazzards then resume once passed. My wife says I drive with my thumb!

I've turned lane centering off in the infotainment, it's a neat party trick but it actually makes driving on the local roads tiring as it constantly nudges the wheel. Would maybe enable it for a long distance highway ride, I dunno. Have not had the car long enough to have made any kind of emergency maneuver aside from some hard braking one time to avoid squashing the neighbors chickens.

I specifically added the CCM radar on my 2025 for Lane Centering, I think it's really useful on long highway drives.

The strategy that works for me is to let my hand pull down on one side of the steering wheel constantly:
not only does this get rid of the "keep hands on wheel" nag, but the truck will tend to favor that side of the lane.

(I don't use Lane Centering anywhere I don't have cruise control set... at least the way I have it configured, it will fall back to Lane Keeping when (Adaptive) Cruise Control is not active...
I don't use either Cruise Control or Lane Centering on local roads)

If I've got Lane Centering on and I'm cruising at 65, I can safely open a drink with both hands for a split second, rather than needing to put it between my legs or something in order to break the seal.

To me it seems safer to rely on the computer for a second than try to get my hands to do two complicated things at once.

Agree. However I do get a tad confused with lane "centering" vs "keeping"? I use Adaptive cruise w/lane keeping on road trips most of the time. If needing to take eyes off road for a moment, I ensure there are distinct lane markings ahead, & trust the system to keep me in lane while I open a drink, change eyeglasses, etc. FYI, I've timed the interval between notifications to Place hands on wheel. It's 13 seconds on my 25MY hybrid.

"centering" vs "keeping"
Centering is what you are describing, the actively semi-autonomous driving that will follow curves etc..

Keeping minds you if you stray too far to one side or the other of the lane and will rumble the wheel/nudge you back into the lane.

I turned off centering because I live in a hilly area with lots of curved roads and I found the centering to make local driving tiresome as I felt I was always having to "correct" the steering.

Yes, I frequently turn it off, fighting steering is distracting, tiring, & can't be good on steering components. Thanks.

Know that turning it (lane centering assist, LCA) off using the steering wheel button also turns off lane keeping assist (LKA)!

I disabled lane centering in the infotainment screen so I could keep the LKA on.
