it probably will cost less than the Tacoma in any similar/same trim level. the entry level tacoma SR5 is under $32k (before destination, docs etc) and it does have push to start, unlike the maverick xl.
Target range will be 31k- 45k if they want move units and fleets

Its going to be a Corolla.
Random hilarious thought...

What if they did make it a Corolla truck, with all the current trim levels including the GR? 300hp awd turbo truck doesn't sound bad but I still don't trust that 3 cylinder at all. 🤣

I think Ford will survive.
Of course Ford will survive, I doubt Toyota can eat Ford alive in the segment. But they do have a good shot at taking a decent amount of market share.

Also, If you're going to do a sales comparison, you should at least compare apples to apples...

F-150 vs Tundra
Ranger vs Tacoma
Maverick vs <TBD>

Total Toyota: 245,805

So, yes, Toyota is selling more non-Tundra trucks than Ford is selling non-F-Series trucks. However, considering Ford appears to be taking an "oh, by the way" approach to Ranger production, I stand by my statement. Seriously, Ford has sold pretty much every Ranger they are making; they just aren't making many.

Toyota would need to introduce a compelling, competing truck at the exact same time Ford is doing its major upgrade to the Maverick. Plus, as we have seen, Maverick has eaten into Ranger sales. I fully expect Tacoma to take a hit from a smaller model. So, to say Toyota is "swooping in for the kill" is a bit extreme.

It shares a production line with the Bronco and I bet the Bronco is more profitable.

It's about impossible to get a 2 door Bronco these days. They are only available in 3 trim levels (base $39k - which is a horrible value compared to anything with a fixed roof- Badlands $49k, Stroppe $75k) and they build them only one or two days a month.

Glad my wife got her 2 door Bronco a few years ago, had to wait 14 months but it’s a loaded Outer Banks model with Sasquatch package, not as family friendly as the 4 door but much better looking in our opinion.

we have a similar yet different story. I'll tag it with a spoiler so anyone who doesn't care about it can scroll past easier, lol.
oct '21 did a drive & ride event in bentonville with a pro wheeling and we were able to ride in a 2 door. our over 6 foot son fit in the back. was it awesome getting back there, no, but once seated there is enough room.

oct '21 ordered a 2022 2-door bronco outer banks with lux package, roast (bronze) cloth interior, $45,750. dec '21 decided it might be a long wait so I ordered almost the same Bronco from a different local Ford dealership except added adv 4x4 (still no sasquatch), msrp $46,550.

both Bronco orders then scheduled for the first week of March '22. what happened to the year-plus wait, we wondered? we just got lucky that neither dealership had any similar 2-door orders, and that our orders didn't have any constrained components. we kept the one with advanced 4x4 and my wife has put all of 7k miles on it since april '22. (my only regret, which she doesn't share btw, is that I should've bought a high package and then put my own sound system in it. the B&O sound is meh.)

besides the twice-yearly price increases, we've also watched trim packages and options go away. first was the roast interior - no more copper/brown for anyone. then no more 2 door OBX, or adv 4x4 without badlands or sasquatch. then no more cloth seats!

My first Bronco was a '21 2dr OBX in Antimatter Blue, a rare and great color on the Bronco. It had one option, the 4.27 locking rear, MSRP of $41245. It was what they called a mannequin, it was one of the first Broncos built that were given to dealers but they could only use it for display, couldn't sell it for 3 months, I was lucky that my salesman from the dealer texted me and asked if I was interested, great because they sold it to me for MSRP, a rarity at the time. Today I have a '24 2dr Heritage Limited Edition, the MSRP was $72880, paid $60k. How times have changed.

IMO, they may as well just do a less ruggedised economy tuned taco hybrid because the platforms they keep going to, Grand Highlander and the Subaru Forester ones, aren't showing super good mpg potential, gonna land around 30mpg, so they may as well just do a streetier taco. Even by the time they mess around and try to massage those platforms into trucks they might lost mpg and be where the taco hybrid is now at not much of a cost saving, and if people wanted those, they'd be buying those.

Ive had 2 Honda CRVs, love the driving handling, but Hondas center dash & steering wheel controls are friggin maddening clutzes. Menus are straight up idiotic in Hondas, I had to keep pulling out the manual to remember where stupid features were hidden, & I had to constantly delete & re-pair my phone to the center console, it would just get stuck trying to answer calls hands free, especially if there were 2 of the paired phones both in the car together with Bluetooth enabled.

You just sort of tolerate the shitshow that is Honda center console because the interior & driving is nice. Once you get used to Sync 4 it would be a bit hard to go back to Hondas clusterfuck where you get in the car & youre phone is connected every single time, Google maps pops right up, as well as the last thing you were listening to.

If there was a way to install Sync 4 in a Honda...

Honestly if you're not going to consider a hybrid variant go grab a 2025 at a steep discount!
