At the end of last month, I lost my ‘22 Maverick (VB, hybrid XLT, Lux, SIBL, 360) totaled in an accident. Since then, I have followed a scheme employed by others to find their Mavericks. I reached out to every dealership within 100 miles inquiring whether they had any inventory or expectations of the delivery of special orders. I was having no luck other than being offered several used trucks with significant mark ups. I would leave my name and number asking to be called if a special order was declined. I also did a daily search on Ford.com looking for recent deliveries in my search area. If I found one, a call to the dealership would confirm it was a spoken for special order. Until today!!!

Literally as I was talking to a salesperson at a dealer 60 miles away, he indicated he might have one delivered tomorrow that could be available. Before he could continue, he stopped and said a car carrier just pulled in with the truck he was expecting, a silver hybrid XLT with no other options. I tried to hide my excitement to discuss the dealerships price setting policy. He informed me that they add a 4.5k market adjustment under such circumstances. I sent him off to talk with the sales manager about price flexibility and incentives I might qualify for. While I was waiting for him to comeback on line, I received a text from another dealer telling me she had good news.

She told me she has a special order, cyber orange hybrid XLT, Lux, manual rear window, 360, where the requester has decided orange is not necessarily the new black for her. The offer to me is at MSRP! The rub is although they have a VIN, they do not have a production date. I can have the other tomorrow. For this one, I have to wait on production and shipping. The salesperson assures me that with a VIN it will be produced. They will make a final call to the original buyer to confirm she is passing up on purchasing the truck. With that, it’s mine with a $1,000 deposit.

It is everything I would want, other than color. I have told myself I can close my eyes as I open the door and just tell myself it is blue. My thought is not to let it go and to order a 24 when the order bank opens in July for the color I want. Assuming prices hold while I wait for the 24, I’ll go the CarMax or Carvana route when it comes in. Worst case, if prices fall through the floor, I have an orange Maverick at MSRP. The other remains a possible fall back option. Not a bad position to be in. Comments?

Well...just to relate what happened in 2022...my VIN was assigned in August and then cancelled. It was never built. While it reportedly never happened to Ford before, there were something liker 6900 orders cancelled that HAD VINS assigned.

You may want to weigh that in your thought... Bird in the hand and all that....

The color of a vehicle can be changed after a VIN is assigned. Myself and others have done it. At some point close to production date you can no longer change the color.

If you want a hybrid maverick, just take the first one that comes first (besides those massive markups offered by dealers). It is as simple as that.

THIS. I just changed a Tremor being produced next month from Avalanche Gray to Atlas Blue. No problem.

Take the build you like and change to Atlas Blue. You're going to have this truck a long time. It'll be worth the wait.

I would take the Cyber Orange XLT. Forget the $4500 adm.
Sorry you lost that beautiful Velocity Blue truck!

I'm one of the original posters who ordered a 2022 hybrid XLT , LUX, and CP360 on 15 Oct 21. I was told it would go into production and be delivered within 8-12 weeks. I waited 90 days, and being an Army veteran of 12 years, I decided to "make things happen" instead of "wait for things to haappen".

So, on 15 Jan 22, I decided to strategize, not scheme, and contact dealers as far away as I was willing to travel to find one. After I began searching, 50, 100, 200, 300 miles away in a radius to my home, nothing was available. The following week, I expanded my search to 400, 500, and 600 miles away. By the luck of the straw, I found a hybrid XL with CP360, spray in bed liner, and a hard top flip back tonneau cover, but no LUX, which meant no cruise control. I flew up to NC, bought the truck at MSRP, and drove back home 546 miles.

I was on a call back list from numerous dealers, including the one I ordered from in my hometown. I had expressed to them that I was interested in one similar to my order, and would trade in the one I have. On 30 March 22, they called me and said a customer that ordered an XLT with the lux, but no CP360, canceled their order and bought a Ranger. So, I traded in my XL for the XLT.

Forward to October 22. I found out I was going to need surgery on my lumbar and cervical spine and was going to have a limited range of motion in my neck, and to drive safely, I needed the CP360. So I used the same strategy I used to find previously. It took me almost three weeks, but I found a hybrid Lariat, Lux, CP360, moonroof, electric rear sliding window, ceramic window tinting, and clear door edge guards at a dealer in Tampa, which is 450 miles from my house. I drove down there, traded in the XLT, and purchased the Lariat.

As for my original order from 15 Oct 22, I received a production date on 22 Aug 22, and had pushback emails no less than five times before it was ultimately canceled completely by Ford.

On 15 Sept 22, I had ordered a hybrid XLT w/Lux, CP360, and the black appearance package. As of today, I've received "we're sorry" emails from Ford every 45 days since I ordered. No, I'm not going to take delivery of it if it ever goes into production, and I already notified the dealer.

So, my advice is, if you find one that is already available, go for it!! It may not be the color you want, but you can keep it, or used it as a trade in later on, or sell it to an online car buying company.

I say get what you want and do what you have to do to make it happen. Mine is Carbonized Gray with the Black Appearance Package and every time I walk up to it I like it more. I got a lot of options and am enjoying them also. Not crazy about some of the safety stuff but I know it is good for me now and will be more important in the future.

FWIW I ordered my 22 Xlt in october of 21. Finally received a VIN number from Ford many months later which led me to think, "Hey even f it's not here, it will be here... I got a VIN." Well...within a week I got another email from them saying it WASN'T being built and I needed to cancel my order and order a 23. So, there's that.

Congrats on seemingly striking gold 3 times? As far as the color ... have you thought of getting a wrap? Perhaps you can get that blue or another color not in the Ford palette.

I think Ford is hoping that people get frustrated and cough up the extra money to get a Ranger, F-150, etc. They aren't making as much money on the Maverick as these other vehicles.

Maybe you got the one I turned down. I ordered it with plenty of options and then decided to keep my 2022 hybrid. Pauli Ford in St Johns, MI

No I ordered this one in September 2022 after reading here about the ordering window. Had to tell my dealer about the window as they were not reading the memos. Originally I ordered Atlas Blue but after looking at some Explorers on the lot I switched to the Carbonized Gray. I did drive an Alto Blue one that another member here ended up buying. I liked it but did not want to pay the premium over msrp. He is happy and I am happy.
