One of my favourites is...the best country AND western song ever!

Hearing it makes me chuckle every time.

The OEM batteries in Ford products would usually go around 7 yrs if not abused, the replacements wouldn't last near that long, the battery in my Dakota went 5 yrs at least, the lawn mower size batteries in our Hondas( the replacements-go around one year to 18 months),a Mack I drove(triple 12 volt HD batteries) went at least 7 yrs,if you go off roading go to a truck stop and buy "freightliner batteries, the tech is there to have decent battery life, the will to equip new vehicles like that doesn't exist these days.

Walmart batteries;
I got one for my Transit(not Connect). The first one only went about 6 months before starting to fail, so I took it back for a 100% exchange. The replacement lasted several years, and I still have it in my stack of used batteries. I replaced it with a bigger Bosch battery when I added some electric stuff in the van.

note: OEM battery was under warranty when starting to fail after having the van for a year. Went to the disservice center to have it replaced, and was told I would need to leave the van for 3-4 days and they'd get ahold of me when it was ready. For a battery replacement. I went across the street to Walmart and got a battery for $100 and replaced it in less than 10 minutes. Money well spent.

Moral of the story:
Walmart batteries are fine. Probably more for your money than other sources, but I understand the Costco batteries are Interstate, which have a good reputation. I've never had a problem with Interstate (also in my used functional car battery pile).
I remember working for a dealer the first cold day we had a line of tow trucks with vehicles with dead batteries, customers thinking they were under warranty.

When going from a flooded acid to AGM battery, doesn't the computer need resetting to work properly?
Not in a hybrid you might be thinking of.

Those values regarding battery don't seem to be used in hybrid anyway, well, not pre-25MY anyway.

Nope, But A fully charged, peaked battery should be installed after about 12 hours of no battery hooked up so the BCM can set up for the new Level of charge ?
In other words If you just swap batteries the BCM will only charge to the old batteries peak charge level. If It’s below an 80% state of charge Sulfation begins immediately in the new battery.

Was I close Internet wizards ?
Battery disconnect doesn't do BMS Reset. Values are retained thru disconnect.
Perhaps eventually - how long do USB thumb drives hold info?

New battery - the manual's process should be followed - BS Reset, BMS Relearn.

BMS Relearn will take care of some of those values - but something in the algorithm is using the battery age in days, as well as the Ah charged/discharged.

Are ALL your new battery specs exactly the same as the OEM?

This is the stuff I don’t like! Wish if I needed a new battery, just go buy one, install it, and that’s it! None of this other B.S. Reset this, add that, disconnect this for 10 minutes, connect and jump over a rainbow! 🤬

I find it interesting since mid-2000's they've been backing off the alternator load, in order to not be using as much ICE power when not needed.
Trying to charge the battery just as much as it's needed.

I'm sure they had some measurements back then, some flat out did load cycling by time.
But indeed it didn't require all this info to just do some average amount that was good enough to save some MPG's.

Batteries installed were likely all over the place, including incorrect sizes so the spec's were probably no where near correct.
Yet were there reports of batteries exploding all over the place due to be overcharged? Or not making it 4-7 years due to being undercharged?

I recall helping all kinds of people, from unknown's in parking lots, to friends - and the number of batteries that from the holder were very evidently undersized, meaning in my mind easy to overcharge - was the great majority. Always seemed like smaller than possible, and from what I could tell, not an accident, probably desired for cheaper battery.

With touch screens now - just give the ability to enter exact spec's if you got them, or else go for an average or do the BMS Learn strategy - but stop leaning so far to the saving MPG's side.

Walmart,
Ever start Platinum AGM
760 CCA
110 minute reserve and the Bestest part,
A THREE year pro rating warranty
$190.00
If it dies in 18 month I get a new one for $95

That way I don’t have to worry about Ford updates Infecting my Mav and it having side effects. :’P

FWIW Interstates longest warranty is now only two years, been like that for three years already.

Why you ask?
Because all these newer over engineered volt sucking Vampire vehicles kill batteries at about 18-24 months. All because you boyz all want toys !
Chinese components, Taiwanese component, Japanese components,
All assembled in Mexico !
Hahahaha, The Russian in the movie Armageddon:XD
I think we all got off easy on the trouble per mile charts.

Interstate and many others give Just enough pro rate so you can save a few bucks, that insures they have repeat customers.

Did you guys know almost all batteries come from one Company ?
Johnson Controls.
Each brand has a few different specs that are mostly redundant and meaningless.

I’ll go with the 3 yr Wallyworld Battery. Because, ā€˜Country boys know how to survive !’

What ?

If that ain’t country I’ll kiss your ass !
Pucker up! 🤣

I'm absolutely annoyed by the '25 Maverick Hybrid 12v battery discharge issues. I had the battery charged to 12.3v and tested today after the fourth battery saver alert in five days. This time the battery was at 6v and the truck was deceased. I made an appt with a different dealer after the selling dealer had attempted to convince me my 12v accessory phone charger and OBDII reader caused the low battery warnings last week. I have to take a friend to the Dr. in the morning so I have my little 6amp battery charger hooked up and charging all night long. This is absolutely ridiculous! My 2014 Fusion hybrid would kill its 12v batteries from time to time as well. I guess Ford still doesn't have their act together. šŸ¤”

I had a cheap Wal-Mart battery in my 75 jeep CJ5. Just an inexpensive wet cell. I sold the jeep in 2021 or 2022 and he used the battery for another 2 years. The battery was a 2011 battery. I told my BIL that the battery was never supposed to leave the store. But the CJ5 had no parasitic draw. šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

Why an AGM over a Lead Acid battery ?

Modern Vehicles with Start-Stop Systems: Modern vehicles with high electrical demands and advanced electronics (e.g., GPS, heated seats, upgraded audio) require batteries that can handle frequent, rapid discharge/recharge cycles and deliver high power bursts. AGM batteries are engineered for this kind of use.

I’ve used my Noco Genius 1 twice on my AGM
Both times it finished the bulk charging after about four hours. The next morning it was on float .
Before charging my resting voltage was 12.1 VDC, not acceptable.
After the first overnight charge I held at 12.5 VDC.
After charging the second time I seem to be holding at 12.52 VDC
That’s an 85% charge and just in the healthy zone.

We shall see.
