Hybrid transmission fluid change vs flush. Please help

I brought my 2024 XLT hybrid in to the shop today to get a transmission fluid change because it was at 58,000 miles. I got the bill back and was surprised to see that they seemed to have done a flush instead and charged me $700 for it. The internet claims that the fluid flush can damage the electronics in a hybrid transmission and that a regular transmission fluid changes should run $300 tops
please help with any insights you have

When I say I brought it to the shop I brought it to the ford Dealership I bought it from

I would have just dumped the fluid in the transmission and refilled it for about $50. Could always do it again after fluid mixes to get more of whatever was left in the radiator out. Or pull the line at the radiator to drain it as well.

Because this was apparently an elective procedure, the dealer should've been able to tell you exactly what they were going to do and exactly how much they were going to charge ahead of time. If you simply dropped off the truck and "assumed," IMHO the fault lies with the vehicle owner if they end up surprised at the end.

So the takeaway here is not really about the debate of drain/fill vs. flush - there are already plenty of threads on that. The takeaway is that you have a right to know what a "routine maintenance" service procedure entails and what it will cost up front - but at some dealers you're not going to get it unless you are persistent and ask.

It is highly unlikely that what they did is going to grenade your transmission, but hopefully this is educational, especially relative to the dealer you're using.

Since it has already happened, not much you can do about it now.

Service invoice says you will be getting a survey for the visit. Hold it over their head and push them for details of the machine they used and what reassurances they can give it did not damage anything and will not be a future issue.

As mentioned by @Carlitos_92 , make it a learning lesson going forward to know what you are getting when dropping off for service.

They should only do what you authorize, not whatever they want. When I had mine done last month the dealer did a drain and fill. Realistically a drain and flush isn’t all that different, they just pump more new fluid through it to make sure the old stuff is all out. Not sure how it would damage anything.

The “flush kit” is just a BS cash grab, there is no such thing.

Way too much, and those extra line items are total dealer BS. The hybrid eCVT just needs a basic drain and fill with Mercon ULV (part # XT-12-QULV)—it doesn't need a "flush kit" or a mystery "fluid cube," and $340 in labor for a 20-minute job is highway robbery. You can do a drain an fill yourself for around $50 bucks depending on if ULV fluid is in stock and pricing there is a shortage of ULV Transmission fluid. The flush on an eCVT will not hurt anything but should only be a drain and fill. The eCVT only has gears and electric motors. You do not want to flush a 2.0L 8F35 Transmission at all just drain and fill only.
