I have watched this one last night. Very interesting indeed. Always thought it was a myth with the increased mileage after break in period.
IMO it's probably a combination of break-in + warmer weather. I wonder if they've had the 1st oil change because some members here report their fuel economy improving after changing from the factory fill "green" oil to a full synthetic

Drove my 2024 Hybrid maverick 200 miles today It has 950 miles on it now. Drove most of it at 80mph. I got a average of 34.8mpg.
Is this normal for a hybrid with under 1k miles?
Some good information for those that have a new 2025 all-wheel drive hybrid Maverick.

Started the retest at 3,953 Miles.
Drove the same 111 loop, warmer day
One person less in the cab.
Trip meter showed 40.2 mpg
Manual hand calculated 41.8 mpg

And warmer temps, from Jan to Apr. He did admit to having cabin heat on. Which true on highway would have little effect since engine running anyay.
Except for the downhill sections - engine running for heat, or coasting in EV mode.

I recently drove to Los Angeles. I went 310 miles and 99 percent was freeway at 65ish. I have a bed cover and I don't know if that helps. I got 40.2 mpg.
Fill up data or dash #?

Today I took a highway trip of 20 miles flat land; cruise set at 68 mph. Headwind of 25 knots, got 30 mpg displayed, no electric. The way back with tailwind got 50 mpg displayed and it went into electric several times.

I honestly don’t take any of these claims seriously unless you can back it up with Fuelly. I think a lot of you guys see 40-50-60 mpg trips (over 5-7 miles) and believe that is your actual true fuel economy.

The 2025 struggles big time to meet the EPA ratings. Hard stop.
Here is my mpg from 1/31/24 to last week. 22 hybrid xl (for $21.5k!!) 87 octane always. Mostly rural roads, 40-60 mph, hills everywhere, some highway.
So decent mpg is achievable, but only with my style of driving in my area (Poconos, btw) That’s one reason these comparisons are so hard. It’s very unique to individual driving style and geography. Also, I am hyper vigilant with mpg. I treat the ev coach like a video game that I must win on pain of death. Fortunate, there are few cars on the roads here. They would hate being behind me.

You've been on here a long time and you've undoubtedly seen hundreds, probably thousands of posts about how little effort it takes to gain 10 more MPG.

If you choose not to, your choice.
Just don't complain about low MPG you are getting by choice.

24 miles in 37 minutes in the city with stoplights, now that's brisk baby!

It's not a fluke. I do it 5 days a week.

@710-oil-614 I've got 40 or 50 more images similar to these. Interested?
For the 700+ mile tanks …what mode are you usually in? I thought I saw a slippery symbol in one, but just wanted to check. I’ve been running eco on the highway but switching to slippery on the slower roads seeing if that combo is the best.

Nice - I think I'm around 40 mpg at 65 - maybe a bit less (Conti CrossContact ATR tires are likely a bit worse than stock). Mid 30s at 70 mph and 33 to 30 mpg at 75. I do miss having a more slippery wagon for higher speed mpg, but the Mav kills it around town.

Under 60 mph I use Slippery. Always Slippery for stop n go, city, and rolling hills. The name of the game is to get the engine off and coast for as many miles and minutes as possible.

Slippery is the gentlest of any mode

At above 60 mph and steady-state mode really does not matter much.

Ironic but I never use Eco.

It really does kill it around town.

Our current two cars are Maverick Hybrid and Toyota Venza Hybrid.
Both have an Atkinson 2.5L.
Both have the planetary eCVT.
Both have about the same battery pack.

Maverick is in EV way more miles around town, and will beat the Venza's MPG under 50 MPH.

The Venza will use less gas than the Maverick at 65 MPH and above.

Venza is AWD and weight is 3900 lbs.
My Mav is FWD and 3675 lbs.

For those not wanting to watch the TFL video, here is the 111 mile, mostly highway speed mpg, hand calculated

Edit, this was about 3900 miles into the 4k-5k break in that Ford recommends.

And he got 41 MPG highway.

People will debate this but it is 100% true.

There is also a break-in period for the driver. Especially if this is your first hybrid. Getting proficient at turning the gas off whenever you want takes time. Getting proficient at driving on electric only for longer and longer sections takes time.

Out of the box, your truck needs time to learn the exact fuel recipe of your area, (there's more than 50 kinds of "unleaded" used in the USA alone) exact altitude and barometric pressure, and need to create fuel trim tables and much more. The first couple of tanks are never faithfully representative of what long-term results will be.

Also the tires get better and so on.

I got my '25 Lariat 4K AWD two weekends ago. I am already at 1500 miles. I have had two full weeks of commuting to work and then a 1000+ mile road trip, so I have had both extremes already for mpg tracking purposes. My commute is 15.5 miles each way for work. I consistently average 40 mpg for that drive. The speed limit is 65 mph on the highway, but I drive through the city for about a third of that mileage. My drive home is significantly better at around 45-48 mpg. The prevailing wind is out of the west and that is the direction I drive to go home. My other random trips around town not for work I get upper 30s to low 40s.

My road trip I was at a consistent 75+ mph for hundreds of miles and that mpg average is way less. I averaged 26 mpg on the way there and 27 mpg on the way back. My lifetime average so far for all of my 1500 miles is 30.1.
Ford recommends that you have at least 4K on your vehicle before you check mileage. All epa estimates are done that way when they make those published estimates.
