Except that the Leaf is a full second faster to 60 than the Mav hybrid.
I was talking about the Maserati. EVs are quick in short bursts, even if the Leaf is one of the slower ones. I assume you have the Plus.. the regular and older Leafs were no faster than a Mav Hybrid.

It was a rolling start from 40 to 70. That Maserati took forever and a half to get into the right gear. We heard the first downshift, then she just punched the accelerator and left him behind.

2021 Leaf is one second slower than the hybrid Mav. Mid 8s vs mid 7s.

I'm not talking about the Plus which you must be.

This is the 4th hybrid I've had-waiting on my Lariat. I've NEVER had a problem on merging, passing on any highway, etc. On this version, it has two electric motors- one to drive or assist the gas engine to drive the wheels, and the other one to charge the battery pack. The electric is always involved with the drive motion. I think you will be very pleased with this setup. No one has a true measure of the electric torque (because it is variable), but it is very significant. Unlike gas engines, the electric portion is instant torque to help out the gas when you "step on it". And you don't have to spend a dime!

Agree with”Jima7777” on all counts. This will be my third hybrid (2011 Insight/2017 RAV4 hybrid). The electric motor is all torque and perfect for short bursts of instant power. There is a video floating around on YT of a late model Corolla comparison (1.8L versus the hybrid). On paper, power levels are similar. In reality, the Prius drivetrain in the Corolla destroys the NA 1.8 in stop light to stop light runs.

As a side note, it was either “Micah reviews” or “Edmunds” on YT that actually quoted the total torque of the Maverick hybrid as about 220. The only channel that actually had a torque quote.. it should be more than enough for this vehicle

Forgive me if this has been asked, and for not knowing but...

If I order the hybrid, and I'm not happy with the acceleration, or overall power, are there mods that can be done to make this more powerful? I'm not looking to spend tens of thousands on modifications, or an engine swap, but I know you can tune the ecoboost...
Just borrow a 90's 4cyl ranger for a couple weeks and you'll be delighted with the Maverick. If I can merge in a car that gets 0-60 in 14 sec, you can in a maverick that does 8 sec

There seems to be two barriers to speeding up the Maverick, as I, a non-specialist, see it.

1. Hybrids are very much computer dependent . Futzing around with components, speeding them up, will play havok with the computer, and messing with the computer is probably a one way ticket to warranty voided town.

2. My understanding is that the Atkinson engine in the Maverick is kind of wonky from a mechanical perspective. It has variable pressure and is engineered to efficiently burn fuel, very much at the expense of power (Likely one of the reasons why its so low powered compared to other engines with its displacement). I suspect the very mechanisms that make the Atkinson ideal for a hybrid motor make it very unideal for performance modification.

Reviewers have done unofficial clocking of the Maverick's acceleration - high 6/low 7 for the Ecoboost, high 7/low 8 for the Hybrid as I recall. Both will merge just fine - I guarantee my Impala is doing worse than both but I'm not dying on the high way. I suggest you make your choice based on those numbers and not guess at future mods being made available.

EDIT: Also...

I did a quick google search for how to speed a Prius up and the internet said modify the suspension and fuck all else, so there's that.
My 2009 Ford escape hybrid uses a 2.5l Atkinson cycle engine and the acceleration is great. The CVT transmission slows the response to throttle when starting from a stopping position. I imagine the CVT has improved since then but I have had zero issues with acceleration or durability.

As for me I chose hybrid for economical 90% city driving. I have had a hybrid (Niro) that averages w 51 mpg's the past 5 years and I love it. I hate to trade it in to get the Maverick! But Im ready for something new.

Two piece lightweight rotors and lighting the rims you’ll be all set

I don't know why someone hasn't strapped this hybrid onto a Dyno, yet. I'd love to see the results.

That's true. If it's performance one want's then a combined 37 mpg Hybrid is not what you need. But considering that the 2.0 Ecoboost is only .6 seconds quicker 0-60 and only .5 seconds quicker in the quarter mile, not to mention needing 18 feet more to stop 60-0 than the Hybrid then maybe the Ecoboost isn't all that...

Order an EcoBoost and sell your Hybrid when it comes in. At worst, you should break even considering the Hybrid cult.

That's only one test that had many faults. Many others show the reality.

I actually see more of an EcoBoost (gas) cult here on the MaverickTruck club.

Really take a look at all the posts in modifying the 2.0L engine for fractional (or spotty) improvements.

13 second 1/4 mile with just a tune!?
We tuned my Maverick 2.0 last night, SOLID baseline gains
JJC 2.0L Cold Air Intake - Take 2
DIY 2.0L Air Intake
Borla Exhaust?
Intake install question - removing air temp sensor
Started e30 tuning last night!
Tune+ Ecoboost performance tuning shop has joined the 2.0 Maverick party
2.0 tune performance gains w/ 93 octane -- 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
Oil Separator/ Catch can options.
Buschur 2.0 intake installed w/ video sound clips
Listen to my new Buschur Racing Air Intake - sounds on video
If you build out your engine...
Does anyone know if there is a cold air intake system available yet?
VTA mod
5 Star Tuning has Maverick 2.0 Listed on their Website
Let’s talk 2.0 Tunes. Who you going to?
HP Tuners 2.0 EcoBoost Maverick tuning / software tune announced
Who's going to tune for ethanol? Performance Tuning

Now I will agree that there are a few here who seem to be total gung ho ECO as these posts show:

Swap to Lithium ion 12v battery.
Option for a second hybrid battery
2.5L Hybrid Mods
Plug in Conversion?
Anyone else thinking about solar charging hybrid?

I own and love my Maverick Hybrid for a lot of reasons and I only owned gas powered cars/trucks before the Maverick.

My main reason for purchasing the Hybrid vs the EcoBoost Maverick was TCO (Total cost of ownership). The Hybrid costs $1085 less than the base 2WD EcoBoost and the fuel cost savings for the Hybrid are very real as seen by the many Hybrid MPG reports. Mine included. Being retired my driving is mainly short city trips and the Hybrid MPG is vastly better than the EcoBoost in city driving. If the Maverick Hybrid didn't exist I would still be driving my 2015 Honda Fit Ex because of the high MPG.

That the Hybrid pollutes less is a plus. Pollution is an issue for many large cities so I give Ford praise in moving forward to reduce this problem.
