Hybrid Brake Fluid Change Procedure questions

Have YOU personally done it?? If not You are guessing,.

I have read threads saying oh sure it will work and others say NO it wont. Yet in all of it I have yet to read. I DID IT and it worked. No video on youtube of a hybrid Maverick being done at least that I can find.

Many have SAID Oh do it this way or that way BUT not a single one have said I did it this way and it worked fine. NOW maybe I missed it.

And trying to find that past thread now too. It even could have been about their other hybrid which would be using the same system since none of this is brand new.
No I haven't personally - but I don't have to do everything personally to believe it - if reliable source for another's experience.

@skinnyboy - did you have the experience on the hybrid and brake bleed?

Not yet I will do mine next month. I plan to use forscan and bleed like the video i posted. I of course will let others know once done. But from what I have found out so far related to an escape hybrid they used forscan .

BUT hey if there is a thread on how its done with either a vacuum bleed or power bleeder YES post it.
Logic tells me no it wont work as their are pumps involved with the Hybrid mav brake system .Don't see how the pumps would allow fluid to go through them. But I really don't know for sure either way . BUT I suspect the normal way I have used for decades wont work. I have used both power bleeder when I worked at Chevy dealer and vacuum bleeders at home.

I'm looking into this because I'm coming up on three years as well. My understanding is Ford wants 15-20 psi behind it to help force the fluid through the ABS module. It should/does work without that though.

The ABS has decent amount of fluid in it, my personal opinion is cycling the pump is the safest and best way to bleed the fluid out.

Also my Mav wouldn't go into brake service mode via the vehicle procedure, but Forscan was able to get it in it.

Whatever you do, do not touch the brake pedal. Someone tried bleeding the brakes the "old fashioned way" and destroyed their master cylinder. IIRC it was a $1200 repair and required tow to dealer.

Yeah, bled the brakes with a vacuum bleeder. Didn't cycle the brake booster. Did, however use Forscan to get out of maintenance mode, our '22 has been funky with that.

So you did vacuum bleed the brakes?? With just one of those Hand vacuum pumps?? Put into maintenance mode via forscan , correct? Just want to make sure what you did. After brake bleed worked correct?

Yeah, basic bleed with a hand pump. You won't get the new fluid through the EBB, but I am not concerned about that. Figure if the fluid flows through the booster it will mix with the new dry fluid, if not it likely doesn't have a lot of moisture in it to begin with. Wasn't able to remove old fluid from the reservoir since the screen at the fill point didn't want to come out, so just bled more.

Put into maint. mode the Ford way, but it wouldn't come out that way, so had to use Forscan to take it out. Been a mixed bag with maint. mode, Ford process may work, or not on ours. With an early model I would have Forscan at the ready just in case it hangs like mine did this time.

No issues after the bleed. IIRC I pumped the pedal with the battery disconnected when I was done to prevent an excess pedal travel fault.

If you already had Forscan hooked up why didn't you just bleed that way? It's way easier, and more in line with Ford procedures.

Since I didn't have Forscan hooked up at the time, didn't want to chase around the truck following computer prompts, didn't see the need, and don't trust software completely (see issues with the Ford software nonsense). And my son has a computer science degree

Manual good (for me).

Well I ordered a pressure bleeder and fluid, I'll update this post when I actually flush the brakes in the next month or two. I plan to hookup the pressure bleeder and use forscan to do a abs service bleed. Thanks for the responses.
