Too bad they couldn't have duplicated the already familiar home HVAC system.
Heat, Cold, or auto-changeover - make that your Temp setting option for auto-handling it.
Fan on auto, or On.

If you pick defrost because you sense a problem starting - include AC automatically since usually required, at whatever temp you have selected.

If you press Auto button, or max-AC/Defrost - all on the computer to figure it out based on your temp setting.

Same issue in mine. My auto button is never on. 50s in the mornings and the A/C comes on every single time.

OMG! When you start your car and the AC comes on but you don’t want it on, TURN IT OFF! Have we really become so THAT lazy?
The flip side is, did the Ford software programmers become so lazy that they couldn't code in a simple "keep last state"? That certainly isn't rocket science, and all my other cars got that simple programming right. My HVAC settings, other than temperature, are different from what I had it set to 90% of the time I start the Mav.

Maybe try this.

This states it's "Remote Start" settings. Will this then apply to just standard starting with the key? I guess I will try it and see. If it works, then poorly written instructions. If it doesn't, then still sloppy coding.

Sometimes settings are shared. It’s worth a try.

As someone who used to write these kinds of instructions for a living I will say that in the software world there can be such a huge amount of variability and "if this, then that" logic that sometimes its next to impossible to end up with clear and truly useful written documentation. Unfortunately, that means the end user needs to often just experiment with the settings and see what happens.

I have been running into this with the last couple of vehicles I purchased. The part you may be overlooking is all the safety systems onboard are using vision based cameras these days. My guess is that Ford is defaulting to clearing the glass.

In my Bolt it tried to do this but you could over ride it, BUT if you were driving it and the humidity level was too high it was warn you and do goofy things like start to tell you that you couldn't continue to use the adaptive cruise and things like that. The Tesla let me turn things off, but it got all kinds of wigged out which is another soap opera I won't get into here.

The default behavior is to try and clear any fog or haze from the glass and it is a humidity check. I don't have my Mav yet, but there may be a way to override it, but be prepared for other strange behavior as a result. This is going to become a problem as time passes with glass getting a hazy film on the glass that needs to be cleaned and will end up turning into a maintenance item.

I normally have mine set auto ON, fan speed 2 or 3, temp 71-74. Truck decides heat or cool and when to turn fan on. Then can choose Max on or off, or set Temp to Hi or LO if I want temp to continue heating or cooling more/less than set Temp. If I wanted to make decisions ad infinitum I would turn auto off. What I would like would be a wider temp choice range for temp adjustment on/off. Say set temp to 73 have cool come on at 75 go off at 73. I would like heat on at 60 or less and off at 68.

At least once a year I stop by my local auto glass shop and have inside glass super duper cleaned better than I would/could ever do. If they find a repairable chip (covered without deductable by insurance) no charge for cleaning.

thanks all for answering my original post. Lots to learn. What gas grade do you run with ecoboost engine? Dealer filled it with premium. Video on MPC engine says regular. I have a job2 build so no GPF filter.

On mine, when parking I turn the AC off and then the fan off. This keeps my 25 XLT from being on at start up.
