When I start up my new 2026 I noticed that the a/c is always on even if it was turned off when the engine was stopped. I checked the manual and there is no reference to this. Is that normal, never seen that happen in another car.
Yes, confirmed, crazy thing, but true. I wish Ford would fix that. It is very annoying to have the AC off, and have it come on every time, especially in the 2025+ models where there no physical controls or off buttons like the Ford Ranger. I tested a new Ranger and it works differently as expected. If you leave AC off, it stays off next time to start the car. This is a Maverick thing.

I have a 2025 Hybrid and I set the fan speed manual 4 with face+foot vents and temp stays at 72F. The Maverick keeps the cabin a fairly consistent temp (I have a thermometer/voltmeter in the power port) inside and comfortable. I rarely feel the need to monkey with the system. I do remote start, but even when I don't the cabin is comfortable fairly quickly. Maybe give it a remote start 5 minutes before leaving to give it a chance to reach equilibrium?

Yes, crazy thing, but true. I wish Ford would fix that. It is very annoying. What is more annoying is many people that know nothing about mechanical things are responding and undermining concerns about this nutty behavior. People justifying this dumb thing with, well the AC compressor is electric.....well in my case it was in an EB engine where it is not electric but belt driven and putting a needless load. Even if it was electric, it still puts a load and drains the battery that will need recharging through regeneration and gas even if it was electric. Many regurgitating stupid things about humidity... Well I can tell you that I have had the windows open before starting the car in a cool morning with low and high humidity and it comes on regardless.

Now today, I just saw the dumbest reply about well I would expect the AC to work that way

Did you check the provided link on page 1 to another thread to see there actually is a solution?

Yes, but the "fix" is not really a fix. Turning the system completely off, including fresh air every single trip I make is not a fix. Yes if you remember to turn off the fan all the way before shutting it down, then when you start the car the next morning, the AC will not come on because the fan is off. But as soon as you turn the fan on, the AC comes on as well and you have to turn it off again, even if you shut it down before stopping the car. Also this persepective is from poeple saying the night before but if you take multiple short trips in the day, you have to be turning the fresh air fan before shutting the car down, the walk back, start the car and then turn the fan back on which also forces the AC on, then turn it off again. Then at your next stop 10 minutes away rinse and repeat. This might be acceptable if you take one trip a day but not if you are taking multiple trips. It is not really a fix. The fix is for Ford to make it like the Ranger where you can leave your fan running and when you restart the car it keeps the same setting. If you have AC on and restart the car, it also keeps that setting whereas the Maverick is overriding you every single time turning the AC on after every restart.

My crude workaround for that is to switch to Accessory mode first, let the center screen boot (but obviously the HVAC buttons are grayed out), turn to start, and immediately tap the A/C button.

Turning the vehicle to "start" right away would blast the A/C with no way of turning it off until the center screen finishes booting up.

So the pre-25MY's slowly ramp up the fan speed automatically - annoys my son.
Considering the hot (or cold) air in the pipes - I'm fine with it.

Do the 25/26 do the same thing, no matter when turned on?

That's why I have the habit down anyway - coldest or hottest air coming out full force when I start up. Nope.
Usually HVAC off if I'm not distracted on my shutdown routine. I'll still leave it at the prior fan setting now - knowing it'll ramp up slowly at least.

Same here 2023 the fan ramps up the speed and then the compressor turns on. There is a time span of maybe two 2 seconds, from the time I turn the vehicle on to the time the fan starts to ramp up.

If the humidity is too high in the cab, then the a/c is turned on to dry the air. Why is the humidity so high in your cab?
I mean, its humid out? Couple weeks ago, it was 90+F and 90%+ humidity every day for over a week. Every time you get back in the truck its a sauna inside.

It's to prevent mold. Like my 91 has, that moisture sits in the evaporator, and dirt gets in there from the air drawn in, and BOOM you got mold growing on the fins circulating all through the truck.

That's why mine has the evap opened up and half the hvac torn apart.

That doesn't sound like much fun...

I guess we'll find out soon enough if the "A/C always on" logic works to prevent mold... kudos to the engineers at Ford if it does! :)
