One of our Mavericks was parked beneath an oak tree on our property last week. It was windy, but not "hurricane windy" or anything. Apparently, a number of acorns fell from the tree in the wind... and dented the hell out of the hood and the roof of the truck. Little acorns.

We've lived in this house almost 20 years and parked countless vehicles under that tree. The acorns bounced harmlessly off our old Escape and my Mustang. Didn't leave so much as a small scuff. But the Maverick is a different beast, with very thin skin, apparently.

I had the same issue a couple years back when a walnut tree dropped a couple on my hood. Left a dent and had to get it PDR'ed. Was good as new after the PDR job.

The hood flexes like crazy under the air dryer on the car wash near me. I've taken many different vehicles through that wash over the years and have never seen a hood flex like that. Makes me nervous.

I don't know if you are aware but last I heard the hood on the Ford Maverick is aluminum. Which if so I can understand it denting and the difference between vehicles. On an aluminum bed like the f series it's has a bend for reinforcement. I don't see that on the hood of the Ford Maverick. There is some sculpture for some rigidity but dought it offers near the strength of steel.

Have taken my 2023 through the tunnel car wash a dozen times. It flutters it's aluminum. It'll be fine.

Each bend on the Hood skin stiffens it.

and of you've got the underlying hood structure itself.

When my wife gets home. I'm going to see how much you have to lift when you open the hood to her 2016 Escape's STEEL hood versus lifting my Maverick's 13lb. aluminum hood .

BEWARE of acorns.🌰
An acorn almost killed a detained, unarmed man locked in a police cruiser.

Speaks to the hardness of acorns and the quality of law enforcement.

And I thought the video of the cops leaving a handcuffed suspect in the back of the patrol car parked on the train tracks to be subsequently hit by a train was bad. 😬

I was in a minor accident and they replaced the hood and I got the old hood back. It's substantial but it's aluminum. Doesn't seem flimsy at all. I'm going to make matching mud flaps out of it.

Right!!
I followed that one too out of Colorado.
She wasn't in any danger till the cops showed up. At least the one cop backed up and kept himself safe. Then again cops have no legal obligation to protect us. As long as they go home to their families is all that matters.

Wow - What idiot parks a car on railroad tracks in the first place?
The officer who parked the car had already been targeted for demotion for incompetence prior to his latest escapade. Apparently the Colorado PD does not require intelligence tests.

He was fired and got a "stiff" sentence after pleading guilty... A year of unsupervised probation.

The officer who put the handcuffed suspect in the car on the tracks also got away without jail time.
Membership has its privileges...

It's amazing the lady in the car hit by the train survived, but she got an $8,500,000 settlement in August this year.

Branch went through my Dodge Challenger
Hood (aluminum), through the engine cover,
and destroyed the intake manifold! $8,200
at the repair shop! Ouch!
Holy crap!
Do you have a picture of the size of the branch and about how far it fell from?

Yup..... on Ford using them damn aluminum hoods!

My '23 F250 Superduty hood (when new) flutters like a f'ng butterfly when going thru certain carwashs, and even down windy highways at 65+ mph! Had to adjust the rubber hood supports above the fenders and front grill to help offset some of the sailing while on the highway.

On our '26 Maverick.... Ford apparently did a much better job of aluminum hood support. Doesnt flutter at all on the highway, and maybe a tiny bit in auto wash blowers.
