"Don't make em like they used to" is a saying for a reason.
Yea, change spark plugs and points every 10,000 miles; oil change at 3500 miles. Tires last just 10,000 miles. They sure don't make them like they used to!

Plus the fine art of tuning, rebuilding or changing jets for different altitude on one of these. 👇

I have a few hail dings in my ultra thin hood and a few on the roof. The hood is nonmagnetic and not heavy enough to be stainless, so aluminum it is. At 80mph on the turnpike, the hood really fexes, it's scary to watch, so I keep my eyes shut. Hood is fully lined so no chance of rubbing the little small dents flat. I guess it doesn't matter, yesterday, a kid in a Kia suv in the space right of me, swung the rear door open and hit my back door hard enough to shake the Mav. I now need a shaker of touchup paint.

I am paranoid now about acorns and high winds. I avoid parking under trees. Some acorns fell last year while I was waiting at a traffic light. If it’s not the freakin acorns it’s the birds targeting the truck with their mess when the truck is parked.

Things likely have changed, but 30+ years ago, I took an autobody course at vocational school in the evenings while I was restoring an old car. I remember the instructor telling us that the cars with the heaviest duty metal in the body panels were European. North American models were one or two grades thinner, and the Japanese and Korean cars were the thinnest metal. I of course bought a 91 Subaru, and on a quiet day you could hear that car rust. It dented if you looked at it harshly.
I think that was more reflective of the quality of ore each market had access to, as opposed to thickness. Asia famously has shite quality iron, hence their "1000 fold katana" and the rusty Taco frames.

When Toyota and Honda moved car production to the US with US sourced metal, the rust problems began to disappear, becoming comparable to domestic brands.

Dont forget 5 digit odos, because the engine and trans are gonna be clapped out by 100k. Assuming there was a body left by then.

Best part of carbs was either having to rejet on the side of the road, or suffer from garbage fire quality when you had any sort of change in elevation. Go on a trip to colorado, have fun with that!

It's just generally a good idea to not park under trees if possible. Sap, bird droppings, branches & twigs, seeds, leaves, pollen, insects, felling in high winds are all negatives. About the only positive is the shade, and that only applies in the summer/warm climates.

Owning and driving a convertible with the top down. I learned early on, not to park under trees, street/parking lot light poles...etc.

Wow - What idiot parks a car on railroad tracks in the first place?
The officer who parked the car had already been targeted for demotion for incompetence prior to his latest escapade. Apparently the Colorado PD does not require intelligence tests.

He was fired and got a "stiff" sentence after pleading guilty... A year of unsupervised probation.

The officer who put the handcuffed suspect in the car on the tracks also got away without jail time.
Membership has its privileges...

It's amazing the lady in the car hit by the train survived, but she got an $8,500,000 settlement in August this year.
My uncle was a deputy sheriff. He was also - in a previous life - a marine sniper and marksmanship instructor. Told me about an incident in his town where a convenience store was being robbed. A patrol car with two officers responded, saw the suspects climbing into a van, and each of them opened fire, unloading two magazines apiece at the van. In the end, they never hit the van even once. Goes to show the quality of law enforcement, firearm training. He was so embarrassed to admit that his department was that bad.
a lot of police officers shouldn't even carry a gun!

🤔I get tired of hearing it's, 'One bad Apple.'
If you got 3 cops standing around seeing one 1 committing an offense and no one reports it. You now have 4 bad apples.
