I have hand washed my vehicles for years, 98 % of the time. Brushless in winter when needed.
To start to clean my vehicles I start with Carbrite Omni Brite on wheels and any heavy bugs. Pressure wash to remove any loose dirt which includes wheel wells underbody. Next is foam gun soap down. Hand wash with same soap and microfiber towel. Foam gun again , pressure rinse , dry with Firemans Friend cloth. Always done early in the morning in the shade , no water spotting.
In the winter take bucket of hot soapy water and use self serve car wash. Hate dirty vehicles
Just hand washed a few days ago when it got to be 70 out. It will take a few hand washes to get where I like it, Helps to have it Ceramic coated.

Haven't been through a carwash in 10+ years. That said, I've noticed that several around our area, even the 'touchless' ones have signs stating 'Absolutely No Pickups'. My guess is it's the size of a full size that's the issue, however they don't say anything about vans, only trucks. - I use the self-service bay in cold weather to hose mine down well, hit it with my own mitt, and rinse, and happened to spot the sign. (Likely as this is my first 'truck').

I hand wash with the 2 bucket method. I've found the best way to handle bugs is a good defensive strategy. I wax my vehicles a few times a year. But I hit the front end surfaces with spray wax after every single wash. Get something compatible with whatever wax or coating you use. Meaning often the manufacturer of the wax/ceramic/sealant you use likely also makes a spray quick wax version. Takes all of 5 minutes.

Otherwise it's best to get the carnage off the paint sooner than later. Like birdpoop, some of the bug guts will etch into your clearcoat. Detail sprays can help with this, just be cautious if your car is dirty, as you don't want to grind dirt I it the paint. I'll hit it with the spray and very lightly pat/wipe the area to clear off surface dirt, then flip the towel and spray and wipe the bug off.

To remove stubborn bugs that make it through a wash, or also ahead of time, they make a variety of bug and tar removers. They work pretty well but the problem is that almost all of them will remove your wax or coating where you use it. So keep that in mind.

There are a couple products that do a decent job but don't remove the coating. I use Gtechniq Bug Remover. Can do larger areas by spraying on the area or smaller ones by spraying on a towel and blotting onto the bug first. Either way, you want the product to sit and keep wet on the bug for 30 seconds or so before you wipe.

Otherwise, it can also be used as a pre-treatment before you wash that area. Spray it on liberally and let it soak for a minute then wash. It helps, especially if you've kept the area waxed, but a lot of times it can still require some elbow grease.

My SUVs and trucks get washed at least once a year, whether they need it or not. Foam cannon on a pressure washer, followed by scrubbing with a soft bristle brush on extension handle, followed by a good rinse. A bottle brush gets into any crannies in the wheels. They're trucks, so I'm not too particular.

I guess this could apply to any car or truck, really. I love the way my Maverick looks and I want to do a better job keeping it clean and shiny. Especially the wheels since I bought aftermarket rims that look fantastic when clean.

My main problem is I do a LOT of freeway driving at speeds 80+ mph and I’m constantly getting bug splatter all over the front end. This stuff does NOT come off in drive-through washes. I’m considering buying a pre-soak bug spray and applying it to front end before every wash. And a wheel cleaner pre-soak spray as well.

My question is do you have to scrub these bug sprays and wheel sprays with brush after they pre-soak, prior to going through the car wash? Or do they have enough power to dissolve everything and then it just comes off in the car wash?
Ours is 3 years old and looks new. I wash all my vehicles once a year ( in the spring) at home with dish soap and give it a a good wax job with paste wax. Costs about 3 bucks. The paint on my 16 year old ram still looks new also. Michigan vehicles their entire life.

Usually hand wash, use car wash if temperatures are low. Use a battery powered (leaf) blower to get most of the rinse water off, can usually finish up with just one drying towel.
