I went with the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks, non chrome edition, am cheap, could not be happier, hood goes to the limit I don have to think about no stinking rod.

Oh I wish I were joking. What In The World ?
You guy's are joking right ?
I'm 5'11" and the stock rod easily holds the super light hood out of my way just fine.
One of the first things I did to my new Lobo. Have always used Red Line struts.Totally agree that’s why I installed the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks - the hood opens a few more inches and eliminates the need for the prop rod. Very good quality and a smooth hood lift assist.

The mind boggles at the potential backstories leading to coming up with a policy about such things! When I need more room to lift the engine out I unbolt the hood.

Ahh, some of the references you made are surely confusing anyone under 50Oh I wish I were joking.
But I can hit my noggin on the hood latch (ouch) and take an eye out faster than a Red Ryder if I rush around the corner of my garaged truck.
Not to mention the OEM prop rod is wobblier than Hepburn’s head in a helicopter.
So a homemade or aftermarket prop rod is great if you’re 5’11” or taller and want to stand tall & proud when you top off your wiper fluid. I’m 6’2” and my Lobo is lowered in the front![]()

YA!Anyone here, remember these buggers attached to the bottom of the hood?

That's why I prefer the Lisle universal prop rod. Can move it around as necessary, raise the hood high, open it just a little, etc.Maybe not too short, but the Prop Rod does get in the way at times.
It would be convenient to open the hood and not have to mess around with the prop rod at all.
hmmm
I could see how it opening a few inches more with Redline struts. Some vertically challenged folks, might have trouble closing it.![]()

Easy, make it longer. Done.Anybody else...besides me... think that the hood prop is too short? Feels to me like it should be 4-6 inches longer/taller....
I know what you mean. When I work on my vehicles. I try to throw a moving blanket over the fenders or the radiator. That gives me something to lean on without scratching up anything. It softens the poke.Or worse yet, on the radiator cowel, in just the right spot to jab your navel when doing anything under the hood...
