I have to reach out to the group on this head scratcher. My 23MAV hood prop clip is missing (probably from the recent accident) so I purchased one from the dealer. Issue is that the clip (yellow clip for securing the prop bar) does not fit into the larger slot designated for that clip. I went to the dealer and asked if a base is missing that would fit into that specific slot. The parts guy finds nothing in the catalog. He even checked Amazon, and they only show the yellow clip, no other piece to attach. I went to the showroom floor and popped the hood on a new MAV... the yellow clip is right there where it should be... but no other indication of a securing piece underneath.... I am totally baffled as to how this yellow clip is supposed to be secured in place to hold the bar. And, yes, I hear it rattling around when driving over rougher roads. Open to thoughts, solutions, suggestions!

I am wondering if you just need to REALLY shove it in there. Especially since you say it doesn't fit and I see that the bottom of the clip is tapered and looks like once you press it in far enough, it will clip into place and be hard to remove without squeezing it from the underside?

If you are one of the "cool kids", give it some...

Note that the slot is trapezoidal try turning it around 180°. Maybe you have it "clocked" wrong???

Were the replacement parts from your accident OEM?

Oooh......I think I got it now that you mention the trapezoidal shape. I bet they need to push it in, then push it "back/forward" so that it wedges in the narrowest portion of the slot.

Tried turning it. It just doesn't lock into place. The 'fork' of the clip needs to face forward to catch the bar.

I just looked at mine I think it just pushes in until the ears snap in place. Maybe put it in hole with support rod in the fork. Push on the rod which will push straight down in center of clip. Might tap it with a rubber or dead blow hammer. ???
Maybe needs some easy penetrating jelly on the thing! 🤔

I went and looked at mine; you are correct.

The hole that it goes in doesn't look damaged. The clip is either not getting pushed down enough, or the two tabs aren't sticking out enough to catch.

I would try gently bending the tabs out with a small screwdriver to see if you can help them get a little more bite. It won't stop the clip from seating since the tabs are basically hinged and can collapse as much as they need to to fit in the hole.

The other thing to try is pressing down on the clip with a bigger screwdriver to really push that horizontal flangey part into the hole. It looks like it flexes, and it might have to flex to get those tabs low enough to seat.

Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions.... I used what I would consider an extreme amount of force to the point I thought I would crack the base, but it did finally snap into place.
All good to go...

The factory one on my 22 doesn't work so why worry that the replacement will work either, if you don't like the rattle glue a magnet under it with JBWeld.

Exactly. Here is a CHEAP ass set of Hood Struts I bought. And here is the SPRING. (found here on MTC) Best thing I did. Totally removed the hood prop.

Edited to say hood is aluminum and does not weigh anything. Get what you like. But cheap struts will hold it up NO PROBLEM. Unlike my Crown VICS and Grand Marquis'. THey are all STEEL. Struts are a lil different
