I went with the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks, non chrome edition, am cheap, could not be happier, hood goes to the limit I don have to think about no stinking rod.

What In The World ?
You guy's are joking right ?

I'm 5'11" and the stock rod easily holds the super light hood out of my way just fine.
Oh I wish I were joking.

But I can hit my noggin on the hood latch (ouch) and take an eye out faster than a Red Ryder if I rush around the corner of my garaged truck.

Not to mention the OEM prop rod is wobblier than Hepburn’s head in a helicopter.

So a homemade or aftermarket prop rod is great if you’re 5’11” or taller and want to stand tall & proud when you top off your wiper fluid. I’m 6’2” and my Lobo is lowered in the front:)

Totally agree that’s why I installed the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks - the hood opens a few more inches and eliminates the need for the prop rod. Very good quality and a smooth hood lift assist.

One of the first things I did to my new Lobo. Have always used Red Line struts.

Ahh, some of the references you made are surely confusing anyone under 50 😂

‘Ring around the collar’ was the number one problem of humanity back in the 70s based on ad frequency.
Problem must have solved since nobody talks about for decades now.
The short hood rod was a problem since my first car, but its not been talked about much. Almost got scalped moving my head back too fast once during college days

Anyone here, remember these buggers attached to the bottom of the hood?🤕

Raising the hood an extra few inches with Redline struts, would be beneficial to me.
It would raise the corner of the hood out of eyeball range and it would raise the forehead knocker higher than my forehead.

The corners are right at eye level.

This is at forehead level. At least it's rounded.

Maybe not too short, but the Prop Rod does get in the way at times.
It would be convenient to open the hood and not have to mess around with the prop rod at all.
🤔hmmm
I could see how it opening a few inches more with Redline struts. Some vertically challenged folks, might have trouble closing it.😳
That's why I prefer the Lisle universal prop rod. Can move it around as necessary, raise the hood high, open it just a little, etc.

I just did the spark plugs on my Nissan Frontier a couple weeks ago. Used the Lisle prop rod on the driver's side and held the hood at maximum height while doing the passenger side cylinder bank, then swapped the prop rod to the passenger side while doing the driver's side. No crouching under a low hood with the factory prop rod and no hood struts to have to reach over.

My F-150s and F-250s came with factory hood struts and there were times that I'd just remove them and hold the hood open with the Lisle prop rod, such as for replacing the rearmost spark plugs or swapping batteries. And that was with hood struts that were tucked close to the fenders.

That Redline kit makes it seem like it'd create a lot of unnecessary reaching over/under/around for work along the fenders or firewall.

Or worse yet, on the radiator cowel, in just the right spot to jab your navel when doing anything under the hood...
I know what you mean. When I work on my vehicles. I try to throw a moving blanket over the fenders or the radiator. That gives me something to lean on without scratching up anything. It softens the poke. 😆
