Update from my dealer yesterday:

Backordered until 5/15 at the earliest, so they said. Date seems odd to me. Like a regularly scheduled, mid-month drop-off of parts.

My CEL has had these codes since February. 2 dealers said it's OK to drive (got that in writing), so come May they'll be about 5,000 miles driven with a bad heat exchanger.

UPDATE!!
We've been waiting since February for the cat/exhaust part(s) so our Maverick can be whole again and finally get inspected (it's 2.5 months out of inspection). Each month we hear "new date is end of NEXT month." I learned that Ford cancels all orders monthly and they have to be resubmitted!!! Local manager could NOT get the part, even when it was marked as an Emergency, so she suggested I call Ford Customer Service. I called them last Wednesday and was assigned an agent. On Monday I got a text telling me that the part(s) will arrive on the 22nd. So it's definitely the thing to do if you're waiting for a needed part and the supply is questionable. Be the squeaky wheel!

Interesting. My dealer just said the part arrived but was "defective". To define how it was "defective", the dealer sent the pic below, and told us we're back to square 1 and waiting on parts, like you said.

For those who don't see what you do, how is this proof that it is defective?

I don't know. The replacement does look different than what they took out of my Mav, but I'm not a tech. I'm not sure that's the right question anyways. The dealer's tech tried replacing and said the part is defective, and are sending it back to FoMoCo.

How is it defective? Maybe it's an updated exhaust? Did they just look at them side by side and say it looks different so it must be defective?

Doesn’t look like it would line up very well. πŸ˜‚

Maybe they accidentally ordered the part for an eco boost and not a hybrid.

I see what looks like the heat exchanger, so maybe for an Escape

Eh, they're just not lined up exactly the same next to each other. Looks like it should fit just fine unless the modified angles in the middle cause any conflicts.

As others have noted, the design is different (primarily the modified heat exchanger and the resonator, plus the angles), but it still should fit just fine.

Further, it's not the Escape FHEV exhaust as that one has a different heat exchanger, different muffler, dual exhaust tips, etc. The one shown above looks like a redesigned Maverick part with no obvious defects...

Thx to folks for taking a look at the pic and checking.

The dealer didn't say the replacement didn't fit. They said it was "defective". I've not had issues with this dealer's techs in the past and they go above and beyond. One time they didn't charge me for a non-warranty wiring fix. That was for my other truck that's also had a couple of part replacements that went on backorder. If I didn't trust them, I would have asked for more details.

When they have the replacement's replacment to replace it -- say that 5 times fast --, I'll ask for more detail.

When i was researching my Mav I was wondering about this exhaust system and it's complex (for an exhaust system) parts. And, the fact that it isn't stainless steel like my last three cars. It's a rough environment for small moving parts and sensors. And, unlike my previous experiences, you can't just rig it to keep going.

both bends at the "S' curve behind the blue hanger isolator appear to be crushed.

I would ask the Dealership what exactly is defective...

This just in!

β€œFord: Good Afternoon, I spoke to Anna and she relayed the part arrived today and she has spoken to you and scheduled you for July 11th. Repairs should take the same day to complete.”

Our Maverick pickup truck got repaired today!!
We'd been waiting for parts since February, and it had been out of inspection since the end of March. And because it took them three days to do the repair, after saying it would take one day, they gave us a free oil change. Best of all, it's now inspected through July of 2024!

AND! Our gas mileage post repair went up! Whoo hoo!! Just driving local roads it was up to 47mpg, from around 42.

So now we're down to just two recalls: the battery cable issue and the under hood fire issue.

(Every now and then we stop and remind ourselves that we got a '22 at MSRP and 1.34% financing.)
