I put the keypad on for this very reason (key and phone in car) I had two instances where the truck autolocked on me in January with my cellphone charging inside . Of course the spare was right in the house because my wife was home . Regardless, I just used the keypad quickly. It hasn't happened since...

I think there is some technology missing from the Maverick. With my 2004 Taurus you could not lock the door if the key was in the ignition, if you locked the door using the door lock button, or manually locked it, the door would unlock if the key was in the ignition, the only way you could lock the door with the vehicle running or key in the ignition was to use the remote. So I checked this out with my 22 XLT, with the key in the ignition, running or not if I lock the door with the lock button & close the door, the doors unlock, if I manually push the lock button & close the door, it stays locked, but the other 3 doors are open.

👍Exactly correct just as Ford stated in their technical service bulletin.
The folks that insisted the truck locks itself automatically.
But are unable to record it. Means, if it cannot be replicated by Ford service, it cannot be fixed.

Ford blames it on operator error. I'll swear on a Bible that the truck WILL lock the doors on its own without driver input. It's rare, but has happened to me 3 times in 14 months of ownership. Recording it on your phone would be unlikely due to the infrequent and completely random nature of the occurrences.

Driver door locks at least twice a month with keys inside. I know I’m not hitting the button cause I always check to make sure it isn’t locked when I leave. Sick of reaching from the backseat “SAS” short arm syndrome! Ford’s answer to problem sounds like a bunch of Corporate Bullshit! Otherwise love truck 42MPG highway and city. Don’t love the PRNDL knob though, wish it had a shift lever. Think I’ll get a hitch safe for the spare just in case.

Ted,
Please try to replicate it and video it. That's the only proof that Ford is going to take.
Obviously Ford service departments are unable to replicate it.
If the service department can't replicate it they can't fix it.

Sorry about that, but can you from now on install the ford app ?

I have a 2022 so the keypad is there, but just as a triple backup plan I use the ford app just on case.

I ve told this story few times on this channel. I jumped out of my truck to get a hot dog at a stand, I left truck running only 10 ft from HD stand it was HOT and my dog was in truck so ac could run for dog all of sudden I hear [click] doors were locked!! vehicle was running my phone in the truck and forgot the code to keypad I never used, my dog in the truck nice and cool me outside, lucky a friend saw me and pulled over to get a hot dog he's a skinny guy am a big guy had the RR window half open my dog likes to stick his head out my buddy was able to get door open. So never leave your truck running without leaving a window open and don't forget your phone in the truck, I reset my key code with something I couldn't forget. Never leave your truck running with windows closed, and never leave your phone in truck, and never forget your code if you have one.
22 FX4 with LUX.
I use an old zip code from where I onced lived for my keypad. It's easy to remember.

I have a 24 with no keypad but they are fairly cheap so I bought one with my ford points. Put it on lower left corner of back window so it's mostly hidden by my trifold bed cover.
If you use it just once, it was money well spent!

Yes..this really happened!!

Was away from my second set of keys. I opened the door to pick something off the ground when the wind blew the door shut with my phone on the charger still in the truck.

Had to go to a neighbor’s house and borrow her phone to call a locksmith to come unlock my truck that was sitting in the driveway running.

I do not care for the truck auto locking with the key inside the truck on my XLT.

I have since made a rule. Note to self. Never get out of the vehicle unless I have the key, the phone, or both in my pocket.
The Keypad has saved me several times. Well worth having

I guess the Mavericks do not have a proximity sensor? I have a base model with no proximity sensor just a key fob I can push the button on it or I can use the key to open the door I know there is an auto lock checkmark that you can choose as a default to do the autolock or not perhaps that’s what you need to look into?
