Money very well spent.luckily, no damage to my Mav. I'm so glad I bought the hitch step to protect the bumper, and it did exactly that. I used to have it installed all the way in for a low profile look but I thought, it might work better if it sticks out farther. There are a few holes for the locking pin and I used the very first one. I'm also glad I got the plastic one. Had it been metal, it might have done damage to the Mav. His plate is pushed in a bit. Other than that, we're both fine. He said he'd pay me for a replacement. We exchanged info, shook hands and parted ways. Then it dawned on me, I didn't get his f'ing number!

That is the exact same Hitch Step I have on my truck which I have to protect from slow speed collisions. I am glad it performed well.luckily, no damage to my Mav. what brand is that? Here's is what it looks like directly from behind. It does obstruct the plate of you are looking at it from the left side of the truck.

That may be true, however that set up will transfer impact directly to your vehicle structure possibly leading to significantly more damage. The step bumper did absorb some, we will never know how much damage it may have prevented. It probably did not prevent structural damage in this case. But, did prevent any damage to truck itself.Yep I get it. Who ever hits me is not going away un damaged.![]()
The standard Weathertech one doesn't. At least from a normal viewing height. This is lower than a cop would see from a car.I was going to buy one before, but I thought they covered up the license plate. Is there any part of the plate blocked? I do want one.
The statement I made was not really to be taken seriously. Depending on speed ,angle of impact or just bad luck damage will be applied to both vehicles. I have be an auto technician for 35 years and as far as that rear bumper is concerned it has very little structural integrity. it's the unibody that collapses that will save you at a higher speed. That may be true, however that set up will transfer impact directly to your vehicle structure possibly leading to significantly more damage. Well you have his plate number & video. Make sure it didn't push in receiver & bend frame.luckily, no damage to my Mav. WeatherTech are $70, but USA made, and won't snap off like the Chinese ones. Read the reviews. I am 340#, and the WT one holds me fine. Many reviews from guys 180#-200# who broke their Chinese ones just by stepping on it. I wanted better. How much is the weather tech hitch step? I saw the Amazon one is $27.99.
My maverick is currently in the shop waiting for an impact bar after it was rear ended. After more than two years waiting and only 420 miles on it I was rear ended at a stop light that just turned green. The driver was distracted by his child in the rear. The slow speed bent the bumper, dented the tailgate, twisted the hitch and maybe damaged the camera or just blocked it. Now I don’t worry so much about where I park.luckily, no damage to my Mav.
