This thread has me ordering a key to keep in my hitch safe, full time - vs just the full keyfob when surfing, etc. I ordered from here - best price I could find https://www.key4.com/ford-transponder-key-strattec-5923293
Will need to get it cut, but can self program.

hitch safe + spare key will be cheaper than the keypad + dealer programming and will work if the battery is dead - I woulda went the keypad route, but the dealers here wanted a full hour of labor cost to program!

I've been "locked out" of mine at least 5 times and I've only had it since May of '23. In a few cases it was not running, but key ignition. a couple of times running too. Lucky for me either the window was open or I had my phone on me so I could unlock through the APP. Have had this happen on a vehicle or 2 in the past but the Maverick is by far the easiest to get locked out of.

Most other cars/trucks i've had won't let you lock it with the door buttons while engine is running.

I'm now in full on alert every time I get out of it. I make sure I hit the unlock and always take phone with me...even if I'm just getting out to stand next to it to pump gas. This is no way to live! lol

It's probably me... hitting the lock button inadvertently while getting out. Either way, i'm Pretty sure it's something I"m doing. Maybe one of you guys knows of a setting in the vehicle menu I can use to avoid this? I seriously have to think about it every single time I get out of it now.

I've owned my Maverick now for 18 months, and zero times have I been locked out.

All good points. But it shouldn't happen.
Keeps from being stolen against law in
Some states to leave car running with keys in car with nobody in it

17 months, same. Never had it lock on me. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these people are hitting the lock button while getting out of the truck.

I had this happen to me also. Next time I made sure I hit the unlock button
when I left the truck running and exited. I do have the exterior open/close panel
on the door, so no problem if the door would get locked. As I expected, the door
did not lock - just my experience. I had also left the drivers window open just
(in case) to CMA. Try it, maybe it will work for u 2.

Snowy / icy morning. Started car with key, and when I finally went out to leave I was locked out. Thankfully I was home and could use my second key to unlock. Not good if I’m not at home.
In my over 50 years of driving, I have locked myself out of my car twice. Both times in the first year of driving. Hasn't happened since....I always carry duplicate sets of keys, one in each front pocket! Works for me..:)

I THOUGHT I had locked myself out. I was driving and stopped in the alley behind my house to throw some trash in the can. When I got out, I realize now, I inadvertently locked my door by hitting the lock with my hand while opening the door. I went to get back in and the door was locked, key in the ignition AND phone still hooked into the dash. Luckily the other doors were unlocked. But it did make me realize that I would have been pretty screwed, if I hadn't been home, near a spare key. I was thinking maybe I could get the Ford app on my wife's phone, but then if my phone is locked in the car, I couldn't call her. Unless maybe shouting through the glass to make a call with android auto.

I think I'd like a feature where the doors won't lock if the truck is running, with the key in the ignition.
