Tremors will be hard to get and you won't see many... and that's just fine because a "truck" with the towing capacity of a 90's era Toyota Camry isn't the least bit impressive. The Tremor add-on amounts to little more than an appearance package (how is that for a hot take?).

The significant reduction in towing capacity for extremely mild improvements to off-road capabilities is a non-starter, for me. When I think about the possible ramifications the reduction of cooling capacity might have (evidenced by the reduced tow rating) it seems like a foolish 'upgrade'.

The dual clutch rear isn't going to be much more useful than the already robust AWD on the FX4/4k.

A departure angle comparable to run of the mill compact-SUV and the still measly ground clearance will still be severely limiting factors in any major offroad pursuits.

The suspension might be nicer... we will see. If it's the same sort of 'upgrade' as the B&O sound system it will be 'better' but only marginally.

I suspect removing the bolt-on plastic air dams and adding a 1" lift on the FX4/AWD Maverick will get you 95-99% of the capabilities of the Tremor.

No skin off my nose if someone wants to order the Tremor package. Be my guest.

I'd wait another year or two until they inevitably find a way to make the Tremor rated for 4K-tow or come out with a Raptor package that has more reasonable off-road chops.

I've got a winch ready for my FX4 (when it arrives)!

Thats the good one too. Used em plenty of times. I've used hi lifts as winches as well. Probably not for the maverick though.

I was going to order it basically for 3 values to me. The Falknen tires, lovin' those wheels and the 4x4 locker which I imagined would be nice on some of my back roads in the winter. I was also willing to gamble that the Tremor would command a higher resale value over a FX/4 to make up the difference. In the end though I came to basically the same conclusions as you that the FX/4 package will suit my needs just fine once a set of Falkens are installed.

Tremor mechanical upgrades only. Ref MotorTrend 8/1/22

Dual clutch lockable rear diff plus frt/rear lock mode
Increased cooling for the transmission. PTU AND the radiator
HOSS spec suspension with 1 inch lift
235/65R17 Falken Wildpeak ATT
Revised front bumper
Additional skid plates
Heavier half shafts
Full sized spare
5 GOAT modes plus Trail Control
Blacked head and tail lights and emblems, ok not mechanical but cool

Saying it's not much more than the FX4? I'd say it's not bad for $2,995. Plus the in/out trim up/grades and black seats which I do like.
Full pass on the appearance group

You guys are killing me ! Im an Alto Fx4 4K owner and have 16,000 miles in 10 months and loving it to death BUT?? This Tremor business is such a tease, your arguments pro and con are all spot on but still i cant seem to dismiss the Tremor. My daily driver since 2001 has been a (stock) 2 door wrangler and i miss the ground clearance very much, have i needed it lately? NO but i miss knowing it was there. And same goes for towing , do i tow the max 4000 pounds? No but knowing the capacity is there (cooling and Gearing) is nice even if your hauling 2000LBS . This ain't easy :(

I'm not saying those things don't exist, but I'm not sure they add up to a hill of beans when the rubber meets the road (or off-road, as it were).

Just line by line.... dual clutch lockable rear - doesn't the Maverick already give power to all 4 wheels in most conditions under 20 or 30mph? You don't need to lock the AWD, it's already on!

Increased cooling? Compared to what? It's not the drive train holding it back from 4k tow rating so then what is it? Is the suspension to squirrely (doubtful). More likely the cooling is the weak point.

1" lift - oh whoop-di-doo. We now have 9.5"~ of clearance? Doesn't Subaru make a station wagon with a bigger lift?

additional skid plates - okay, some additional under body protection is probably called for - especially given the lousy ground clearance mentioned earlier.

Heavier half shafts- I suppose I overlooked these... curious if they'll make a lick of difference though.

Also curious... is the full size spare the same "full size" spare that's actually smaller than the other 4 tires?

"GOAT" modes and trail control? Pffft.... a few computer tweaks of questionable value.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because 90% of Tremor buyers won't take their vehicle off road anyways... and a faux off-road package like Tremor makes a heckuva lot more sense than going something like TRD-Pro for a grocery getter.

Actually admitting those things might exist? Good start.

The mav AWD uses brake vectoring, meaning that when it senses wheel slip on the open differential on a certain wheel it will apply the brakes to send power back to the other wheel. It is pretty smart and will handle anything on the road just fine. Off road its does pretty good too but there are limitations to what the computer can do and what brake vectoring can do.

The twin clutch setup acts just like a true locking rear differential in application. Each rear wheel has its own clutch that you can tell to lock fully that way both wheels are getting full power with near zero spin or slip and this makes all the difference at times. the clutches can over heat but that takes some serious abuse and generally cools down very quickly.

The twin clutch is a enormous upgrade to off road potential by itself. on the mavs long wheel base and giving up 4k? Pass. Not worth it imo and I would get a BS Badlands if you want the ultimate Ford Softroader.

You're hyping up the dual clutch but it sounds like you've reached the exact same conclusion as me. The theoretical improvements won't greatly increase the Mavericks real world capabilities - and even if they did the drawbacks are too great.

Has anyone done a side by side of the Badlands against the other trims? I saw one video using stock equipment, but it was street continental tires vs offroad wildpeaks. Not remotely equivalent so the comparisons were bogus.

Actually admitting those things might exist? Good start.
Snarky with nothing interesting to say - my favorite! I ain't got time for rude little kids and if you don't want to address that hill of beans you're just a troll. Get lost or at least stuff a sock in it!

I did all my offroading on the stock Scorpion ATRs and you can literally feel that rear end engage and lock up.

Don't get me wrong. I wish my Fx4 4k had the dual clutch.... but level with me. How much more useful do you think it really is for a vehicle with the limitations the Maverick has?

I never said it made the Mav more useful, in fact I'm sure I said the FX4 and 4k is still the most capable version.

I was initially addressing your comment about how the Mavs AWD system is always locked and addressing that point on the rear ends. The dual clutch is without a doubt the better rear end and makes the AWD as good as it can get without being a true locker.

The dual clutch in its own little bubble is sweet and is the cats meow.

The Maverick with the Tremor package falls pretty short in my book.

So lets break it down.
I would pay $500 extra to have less felt and more metal under my chassis.
Any old school 4x4 I would pay $500 for a locker and install it myself with new bearings $150. Plus half day of work.
On an old school I would also fab my own bumper because of how low that air dam is $500 in metal(maui price). Plus 1 day of work.
Suspension lift gonna do it anyway and upgrade the shocks so since the kits dont have shock upgrades lets call it $750 plus half day of work.
Trans cooler $150 2 hrs of work.
Upgraded shafts I would have to do after I break a boot or two as is customary. New ones $300.
Falken ATs not my first choice but its the best they offer and the upgrade costs like $750 or something.
More orange, well Im ginger so lets call that a $500 bonus.

These are the most important things that the Tremor offers that interests me.

Lets add it all up. $3700 plus atleast 2 days at work.

So yeah the Tremor is worth it. Yeah it will be better offroad and more durable in the rough than the FX4K. Looks are subjective. The tow rating sucks but I got a FSB for that rare occasion that I need to tow anything heavier than my ass.

So yeah Tremor for the win.

So to address something mentioned that is vague, what is meant by additional skid plates? Do we know what is being added? I'm assuming the FX4 and Tremor will have the same frame, so these could be added to FX4 without a ton of effort no?
