Gap between windshield and hood

A dude I worked with long ago had a 1970 Chevelle SS that had this same feature on it. He said it was “Coil Induction”, I don’t know if it’s wise to cover this up.

Don't punch the slightly blue panels though - they are made up of the cheapest plastic in automotive history and will shatter into millions of pieces.....

No need to place wipers in service mode on this truck. They are very easily moved manually. You move one up by hand and the other one follows. I do it every time I wash it so I can wipe down the windshield. Try that and get a small cordless blower you can stow in the back. The whole process will take about 30 secs.

That is what we did 35 years ago. Moved from Ohio to south central Texas. Get very little snow and what little we do get melts before noon. Keep our cars in the garage so not a big deal.

So I got my Maverick back in July and love it so far. However, I did not notice how large the gap is between the windshield and the hood. I live in the north and leaves are falling and there will be snow and this is going to be a pain to keep clean.

Is there any type of cap or filler for this? I know it needs to let air flow through, but I’d like to keep the leaves and snow from piling up there.

If you have a leaf blower use it. Won’t take long.

That's where the fresh air comes in, I wouldn't even worry about it. It's designed that way for a reason by intelligent engineers and leaves and snow don't change it's purpose.

I disagree. Hundreds of varieties of these available. Which take care of both the large gap collecting leaves, as well as snow/ice/frost not only in the gap, but also on the actual windshield.

According to Ford, yes, there is such a need.

Ford advises us to leave the wiper blades up when turning off the vehicle. Easiest way if you weren't using wipers is to push down on the wiper stalk for a single wipe, wait for the blades to raise, then turn off the ignition. Do not manually rotate the wiper arms as that could cause damage.

On 2021 Bronco Sport and 2022 Maverick vehicles, when replacing wiper blades or wiper arms, damage to the wiper motors may occur if the following steps are not followed prior to using the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure in Section 501-16. To remove the wiper blades: 1. Place ignition key in accessory position (vehicles with keys) or key inside the vehicle (vehicles with intelligent access), press the Start-Stop button without applying the brake pedal. 2. Activate the wipers using the stalk switch. Do not manually rotate the wiper arms and blades. Damage to the wiper motor may occur. 3. When the wipers are at mid travel, move the key to the off position (units with keys) or press the Start-Stop button again to leave the wipers in a service position. Service the wiper blades once the wiper arms are at the mid travel position using the procedure in the Owner's Manual
