I tried to simply lift the arm but hood design prevented me from doing so. Looked through owners manual, nothing. Finally turned the wipers on and turned the engine off before cycle complete.

Did manage to get arm/blade off windshield. There should be a better way to do this.

Advice please

I don't know about the Mav specifically but most newer Ford wiper motors are free moving when engine off - just rotate them up by hand, lift the arms, move them back down when done.

When you start the engine they will re-calibrate themselves.

If they don't freely move then the method you used is probably the only option.

And when I say freely move, I mean freely move - no force required at all.

The first time you move them by hand is a real “pucker” moment! Just doesn’t feel right But now I don’t even think about.

I never understood why car manufacturers make it where the wipers go beneath the hood. What's the problem with having the windshield wipers above the hood. Like my old Ranger.

If you have heated seats; heated mirror, you also have heater wiper park. No sure how quickly it melts though. In San Francisco area, we get frost, but never any snow worth mentioning.

Also (hybrid only) if you set temperature to max and defrost to max, and it's below 50°F And the engine is below 160°F it kicks on an electric auxiliary heater to provide very quick hot water.

If you search forum here & in the manual, i think it's called service mode  (i have not needed to use it yet) if i remember right, i think you cycle ignition on/off and hold the wiper stalk should bring the wipers 1/2 way up for changing out and other stuff

Yes I will give you the first two. The third one I'm not sure, at least not in Wisconsin LoL. The worst car I ever had for snow and ice was my 1990 Ford Probe GT. Wipers retracted under the hood so the snow would pile up where the wipers won't go down anymore. Lights flipped up but only if they weren't frozen in place you would have to get out and pound on them, and hope it didn't break the motors. Same with the gas cover had to pull a lever inside. If it was Frozen you have to pound on it and then go back and pull it again and again and again and again. Plus don't get me started on FWD. I think FWD in the winter It's horrible only car. I did $4,000 damage too in the winter. Drive my 2002 V8 mustang with a 5 speed in the winter never hit anything. Sorry for the rant. I blame Mazda for the Probe LoL.

Agree, when I wash my 22 MAV, just slide the wipers up and unfold. They reset to original position

Please feel free to let us know what it is as Ford does not have one documented for the current C2 lineup (Escape, Bronco Sport, Maverick).

Instead, Ford advises us to leave the wiper blades up when turning off the vehicle. Easiest way if you weren't using wipers is to push down on the wiper stalk for a single wipe, wait for the blades to raise, then turn off the ignition. Do not manually rotate the wiper arms as that could cause damage.

SSM 50200 - 2021 Bronco Sport, 2022 Maverick - Front Wiper Arm(s) Or Wiper Blade(s) Replacement Service Procedure Tips
On 2021 Bronco Sport and 2022 Maverick vehicles, when replacing wiper blades or wiper arms, damage to the wiper motors may occur if the following steps are not followed prior to using the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure in Section 501-16. To remove the wiper blades: 1. Place ignition key in accessory position (vehicles with keys) or key inside the vehicle (vehicles with intelligent access), press the Start-Stop button without applying the brake pedal. 2. Activate the wipers using the stalk switch. Do not manually rotate the wiper arms and blades. Damage to the wiper motor may occur. 3. When the wipers are at mid travel, move the key to the off position (units with keys) or press the Start-Stop button again to leave the wipers in a service position. Service the wiper blades once the wiper arms are at the mid travel position using the procedure in the Owner's Manual.

The way you did it, is the correct way.
