Fuel Gauge Question

I have the 2025 Maverick 2.5 Hybrid. I have driven it 370 miles so far and it says I'm getting 39.4 mpg. First question is how does the fuel tank gauge display on these? It starts at the very top and works it's way down? I never seen any gauge work like this? Looks like it's empty all the time. Now going 370 miles I should be well below 3/4 tank surely even with a hybrid and it says that I have 205 miles to empty. How do I read this gage properly? I am attaching a pic.

That little white horizontal bar to the left of the F E bar is your actual fuel level. Your truck here is sitting at 1/4 tank.

I have never seen a gauge like this either. It genuinely sucks. Why Ford thinks that not having a progressive gauge that decreases in size was the right answer is beyond me. The large nub by the F is incredibly misleading and confused TF out of me when I first used it.

Agreed. It only moves in 1/8 increments. The DTE is more accurate, as is the Ford app (if you have that).

Yeah, the fuel gage is the suckiest suck that ever sucked. It would be a deal breaker if not for the Miles to Empty reading.

The cluster design in general is bad, lots of wasted space. My pet peeve is the small little vertical bar that is shown for the Power %. The total available bar height is like 3" but the power % never exceeds like 1/2", there are no graduation dash marks, etc.

Exactly. This is progressive engineering gone bad. The original fuel gauge was fine and was easy to read. Why Ford decided to "fix" it is beyond comprehension.

Not really your fault. The gauge is a bad design to begin with. Happens a lot. We blame ourselves for not understanding something, but the problem is with the design. We shouldn't have to adapt to a bad design.

I agree and have the Eco Boost engine and yes, the fuel gauge sucks and I'm not a fan of the sucky tachometer but at least it has a Tachometer, I guess. Back to the sucky fuel gauge one time I'll look and it's at the full mark look again 5 minutes later and it's down an 1/8 of a tank!!

Same thing with the coolant temperature gauge.
The first time I drove the Mav I nearly panicked by looking at the bright red indicator at the top.

I hate the digital fuel gage on my 24 eb also I get 49-510 miles / tank. The fuel gage says 1,2 tank from around 325 due to about 180 due . Then will drop to 3/8

Another agreement that the gauge sucks. Who dreamed up the bumps on the vertical line that don't move. Currently on my third tank of fuel.

Yeah these "gauges" offer no useful info, it's baffling that Ford would go with this dumb design of fixed 1/8th increments when a normal full-reading gauge would have cost basically $0 more.

Also applies to the stupid rotary shifter. Doesn't solve any issue, but completely breaks with 50+ years of linear shifters, defeating muscle memory. How many times have I shifted this thing from reverse to park (instead of drive) while doing a 3-point turn ...

Novelty for novelty's sake, doesn't serve any useful purpose and even makes it functionally worse. Just plain stupid ...
