I contacted granger Ford to price out a Premium, 10 year plan at 75,000 miles and a $50 deductible. I asked them about the Interior and Exterior Lighting Plan add on. My question was: Does the $50 deductible apply to lights if I purchase the Lighting Plan?

Their answer was "Yes". For clarification I use a scenario where, if one of my interior cab lights goes out does the $50 deductible apply. Again the answer was Yes. So, what am I missing? What is the point of buying lighting insurance with a deductible that is more than I would pay at an auto parts store for a simple bulb?

I can see that replacing a headlight might put the cost over $50.00 but replacing a single, easily changeable bulb, would rarely cost more than the deductible.

Any advice would be appreciated

The headlight unit is not serviceable by replacing a bulb. I think someone posted theirs was $1400 maybe $1600!

Thanks but that is not my question. The lighting insurance option is for "all lights" not just headlights. Maybe I am naive, but I think that most user replaceable bulbs are going to cost less than the $50 deductible. Buying it just for the headlight replacement may make it worthwhile anyway.

How much extra money was the lighting portion?

Ever wonder just how many bulbs a dealer's service department replaces in a year?

If you have a Lariat, the headlights cost $1600 each! You have to change the whole unit, not just a bulb. That was enough for me to get the coverage.

I purchased the same plan from Granger for my ‘24 XLT Hybrid back in August before the price increase. I went with the $0 deductible plus all the add-ons. Being a hybrid vehicle, & with all the recalls lately, I figure it’ll pay for itself within a few repair visits. The taillight & headlight assemblies alone will cost over $1000. From what I recall, there’s not a lot of difference between the $50 deductible and $0 deductible plans as far as pricing, like less than $200. I would recommend going with the $0 deductible. Just 4 repair visits will pay for itself over the 10 years and then you wouldn’t have to worry about anything if you have a $5 interior light go bad. Go as many times as needed, it’ll all be covered.

This has never been insurance claim worthy. As with any kind of insurance, if you can do it yourself for cheaper than the deductible, do it. I bought the add-on exclusively for the headlight assembly that costs into the thousands to replace ;)

I opted for the 10 year, 60,000 mile option with all of the add-ons, zero deductible. Cost me $1,905 but after using my Ford Pass points end price was $1,716. My previous 2002 Ranger required an $1,800 repair bill for two minor oil leaks (that was six years ago). I can't imagine what a similar oil leak repair will cost for the Maverick now. Plus, I am at that age where it is easier, and probably cheaper, to pay someone else to do the work hassle free.

WOW, remember way back when Ford stated in commercials " Ford has A Better Idea " Having to change a headlight assy because a bulb went bad is not one of them. It is totally ridiculous for Ford to be charging well over $1K for a headlight repair. Ford may have been selling the Maverick too cheaply, but now they are making up for it by price gouging. Shame on you Ford.

I received a quote from Granger on my 2025 Lariat Hybrid. The quote is for 8 years/85,000 miles with no (0) deductible with full Interior/exterior lighting. It was: $3,124 with 18 monthly payments. (Admin. Fee $284) The payment in full was: $2,840.

If I were to want the 10year/100,000miles, 0 deductible with interior/exterior lighting, it would be $3,000 paid in full or $3,300 with 18 month payments. If it would make a difference in price, I live in Michigan and have approx. 44 miles on the new Maverick.

Your coverage averages only 6K miles a year. You must not drive a whole lot. If you double that and drive 12K miles, your coverage will only last 5 years. I drive only 10K miles a year and have not yet convinced myself that an extended warranty is right for me. If the Maverick is a decent vehicle, I should get at least 6 years of trouble free driving from it. My hope is to get much more.
