I'm *assuming* Ford is smart enough to have made some minor adaptation to the 2024 engines to avoid this at least going forward, BUT...we shall have to see. Large companies are very risk averse when it comes to legal culpability, so if they already identified the issue internally they would have to be grossly negligent to have NOT fixed further model year production. I suppose only time will tell.

As others mentioned, Hyundai and a couple other brands have had very similar issues in recent years, and something this major really shouldn't be something that manufacturers get away with without providing a full fix to every vehicle that is affected, plus coughing up some extra for the trouble it causes.
You make perfect sense.

My 2022XLT Hybrid was one of the first to be recalled . The dealer cut the holes in the pan underneath the Engine and butchered it took me over an hour to clean it up 😕. Here it is a year and a half later and i just change my oil and the shield looks like it's falling apart it like a very hairy Dog that has not been brushed for years and it is all matted and needs a shave to cut all the Matt's out . I had a 72 Pinto and a 74 Pangra can you say BOOM unreal again ⁉🤔😕👎🔥

This is why the newer trucks have a redesigned cover. I cannot see what mine looks like, no safe place to lift the truck, but I hope my dealer did a better job. Mine was done before it was sold to me.

Ford just went from a heroic, visionary, consumer-friendly auto manufacturer to a customer's worst nightmare. We all know about the 1st recall regarding the potential of an engine fire in the hybrid models and Ford's pathetic solution that did nothing except pat their buyers on the back and say, "See, all fixed." "Why don't you just calm down and go back to sleep". The 2nd recall is worded in much more serious language indicating that "this time" Ford will really fix it . . . just as soon as the non-existent parts arrive! By Ford's own admission, the engines have a block breach problem, meaning the block will break open spilling gasoline and oil everywhere. The ONLY fix is a new engine! Seems Ford has not wanted to pay the band and thus the class action lawsuit. What a freaking PR problem Ford now has in their lap! Did they learn nothing from the Pinto fiasco?
This article spells out the class action lawsuit:

This article gives you the same information but also includes a form to fill out if you want to join the lawsuit.

Last time I checked, the engine defect that out maverick's at risk only impacted about 300 vehicles out of more than 130,000. It's not a huge deal.

The law suit makes it sound like the fix requires tearing down the engine to find out if it's a problem or not. I doubt Ford is going to want to do that for 125k+ vehicles (remember that number is just the ones sold in the US, not Canada and south America) unless they are forced to.
It seems as though a simple oil analyse is all a dealership would need to do to determine which of the hybrid engines had this defect. About 300 engines are impacted by this from what I read. The oil analysis is what someone else was saying on the forums.

It's on par with the multiple engine fire recalls Hyundai has dealt in SUVs and cars within the last 10-15 years. Most recent were the 2018-2021 Elantra. People keep buying from these brands, saying, "it's only a few" so, why would the companies change?

I think we all know Ford has no fix for the problem. Maybe all we'll get is some extended engine replacement warranty or something like that. Maybe not, who knows, Hyundai was forced by the regulators to replace the engines in the Elantras, maybe we'll get lucky?
I'd be extremely satisfied getting an extended warranty for free, especially considering this issue won't impact basically any of us.

We know from when the first recall went out this is due to a poorly machined crank shaft. How would we know that from an oil sample? The law suit states that the 2021 Escape with the 2.5L had the same problem and required a physical inspection.

If it's only 300 possible vehicles, why was the recall expended to vehicles up to May of 2023 from the original June 2022? Did it really take a year and half for all 300 engines to get put into 300 out of 125+k vehicles? Sounds unlikely. I doubt that's the real number.

I remember the pintos like I said I had two of them 🔥👎. Also I was a Tow Truck driver in the late 70s and I remember the Firestone 721 tires that exploded on the Explorers rolling over and killing the occupants . You think Ford would of learned . Then I believe it was the Explorer again might of been a Bronco or Expedition not sure in the early 2000s had the steering problem that locked up and went head on with a van killing the mother and two of her children and injuring other children in the van . A nightmare Believe Me 🚔💔😥✝✝✝ . Do not understand Ford you think you would learn but NO Money means more then LIFE to you So SAD 😭

At what mileage are the engines with bad crankshafts getting destroyed and catching fire?

Ford should be addressing that issue instead of drilling holes to prevent a fire. How about stopping the engine from having a block breach to begin with?

What I want to know is what's causing them to burn up when the engine is cold.

The fix will be everyone that has one of the vehicles that has this potential issue gets their Maverick replaced with a brand new 2025 Maverick next year when they get refreshed!!

Judging by the “what is this?” thread we clearly have people driving who would say the same as smoke and fire are rolling out from under the hood and keep right on driving.

Calm down.
If you are that concerned about a very rare possibility of fire, remove the shield from under the engine.
We have been driving cars without under engine shields for decades. The shield saves maybe a fraction of gas (MPG).

That's a hard pass for me considering I wouldn't be able to get what I ordered anymore.

Honest question though... Is there anyone in this group that has had a real issue with this? I'm curious.
