Just wanted the younguns to know the truth. This one was just like my girlfriends Maverick.
Under 13.0 in the quarter mile and yes It needed the traction bars. Great car for Bracket racing. The 302 V-8 was the hot ticket for this car and the older Stangs back in the day. Holly Headers, cams, Four Barrels, Four on the floor. Sexy Baby :'P

I dated a girl in high school who owned a Ford Maverick. Boy, that was a long time ago...

Puke green, yeah I remember that color.
We had to carry an extra set of points in the glove box. Just in case.
The Maverick was a bit better than the Ford Pinto. Then Ford perfected the POS category when they made the Escort a decade or so later.

My older brother had a blue Maverick Grabber that he bought new. He had it about a year until another brother wrapped it around a tree.

Married one who had a red Maverick with black and white plaid interior.

I still miss the old cars.
Nothing to figure out,
Stick a key in the ignition,
Drive away.
I don’t recall one single recall.
Ever.
I changed the oil for most every car on the block, washed and waxed them.
I made more money doing that and mowing a few yards than the paper boy ever did.

No recalls back then because they didn't exist. NHTSA first major recall was 1971. Volume of recalls didn't really ramp up until the 80s-90s. It wasn't because the cars were better, everyone just had lower expectations. https://www.nhtsa.gov/nhtsa-celebrates-50-years/recalls-supported-nhtsa

Ignition points, now there’s a term you don’t hear very often. I had a dual point setup in my old Camaro, fun setting up the gaps!

My wife had this one when we got married. Had the V8 and was pretty quick.

Yes, my wife bought a green 2 dr. V-8 several years old, she said it was like a memory of the cars she drove in the old days. I don't know how she managed to drive it, there was no power steering, a real stiff clutch pedal and what I believe was a Hurst 3 speed shifter on the floor (which may have been added after market). It was an unusual vehicle. We used it as a second car. I would not want to drive it fast except in a straight line. "Puke Green", no never thought of it that way, more like Ford's take on a BRG .

Points and a timing light. I carried a finger nail file in the glove box to file the points in my GTO as they tended build up a bunch of carbon.
