Is a bed liner needed on a truck?

I would think a drop in liner would render the cubbies in the bed useless. Not sure about the little bed light and 12v access points.

Thanks for the links. Nice to know you can cut it so easily with a utility knife. Probably gonna leave the gaps at the sides. More important to protect the edge near the tailgate IMO.
I agree in covering the entire bed lengthwise from bed top to the tailgate.

As for the gaps on the side I will put in pieces from the cut off mat from shortening the 72" down to 54.4". That cut off piece is 17.6" x 48" so that will be good for four pieces to fill up those 2.65" gaps.

Thank you as well. Any suggestion for "glue or fasteners" to secure the bed mat?
I have it at home and it is very very heavy.

There is no need to fasten it as it will stay in place by itself.

I’m just wondering for my first truck will I need a spray in bed liner if I’m not moving things often? What are the benefits to having a bed liner? Also what are the benefits or negatives to not having one? Would it also be fine to get a rubber all weather mat for the bed and a tonneau cover? Or is the truck completely fine with just the factory painted bed?

Just curious what others think.
See, here’s the thing, I ordered an XLT Hybrid. I wanted the electric seats, heated seats, height adjustment on the passenger side, the 110v outlet in the cab and bed, and all the rest of the things in the Lux pkg. So, that’s the way I ordered it and the spray in liner is included.

XLT Lux Hybrid, so I get the spray in liner, still plan on putting in some kind of mat. Easier on the knees and will keep my signs from rattling as much.

Going to spend my $$$ first on an after market cover and a bed mat. Initially had a mat as an option but I removed it soon after ordering due to constraints. A question here, if you elected to hold off on the +$500 spray in liner (Line X), can you just see how things go for scratches and do it say in 3 to 5 years - is that a bad thing to do?

Paint - definitely will get scratched up but do you care if the bed has scratches and a few rust spots in a couple years?

plastic mat with cover - probably sufficient. From time to time you will need to remove the mat and clean the bed. You have sun protection with the cover and minor dings on the sidewalls of the bed are expected with a truck

drop in liner - they tend to reshape over the years. Not as protective as spray in. This is essentially buying a cheap phone case and complaining when the phone brakes or that the case looks like shit.

spray in - there are dozens of options. Most offer lifetime warranty and look great for years. If you want protection and keep your truck bed looking nice this is the way to go. Combine with a cover you could get a cheap line x option ($500-550) because you wouldn’t need the sun protection. I am not buying a bed cover so I will get the premium line x that has sun protection
A Bullet (owned by the Line X founder) spray in has the UV protection of the Line X and Rhino’s top $$$ option, they just don’t charge more for a few dollars of a a chemical. Still lifetime Warranty.

I am waiting for my XLT LUX which comes with spray in liner BUT AM WAITING for Mr Fix It to pour a 2.5 gallon bucket of his flex seal into a maverick bed. Bound to happen. I much prefer a spray in liner. Some of the after market come with life time guarantees. It's been many years since I have had a pickup and back then if paint scratches and rust spots grew I would acid fix the rust (turns it black, hard, and paintable which I very seldom did).

Has anyone gotten a quote from Line-x for either Premium or Xtra on the 2022 Ford Maverick yet?
Hey mike, what’s the “bar” holding the storage bin in place?? Much, much nicer than a 2x4

I don't like bed liners. A mat is better to help your knees if you have to kneel in the bed.

You don't NEED a bed liner. Your truck will get scratches and dings in the paint even if you don't haul any objects with sharp edges. Still, it's not needed.

A bed liner will help prevent rust from those scratches and dings. Now, if you live in a semi-desert environment and you park your truck in a garage like I do, maybe it won't happen.

I still plan on getting it. And yes, it will slow delivery down but I'm going to have this truck for a decade or two so I'm going to spend a little money and wait a little bit to get that protection.

I don't see how it could really matter. Done properly they sand the bed first anyway. IMO the cover is more important and practical than the liner, at least initially. If you get a bed mat it should prevent like 99% of any problems given that you aren't dumping loads of gravel in the bed.

I have owned three different trucks (so far) and did not have a spray-in liner in any. Although I lived in Nevada and did not have to worry as much about rust, I now believe I should have added it.
I now live in Connecticut and would not buy a truck without the spray-in liner.
