You don’t really think Ford is running this combo on the ragged edge do you? 250hp, 4k trailer and stomp on the gas. It should hold up fine. Can’t see adding 50hp doing any harm, especially if you are not towing 4k.
The transmission is actually rated for slightly less than the 250 hp engine rating. IIRC it's 220 hp. It seems like they set the computer to limit power/torque to prevent situations where the design limits of the transmission are exceeded.

I also find it odd. Then why do they even put in the 250hp EB? If I were to pull 4K and found out a manufacturer dropped the hp/torque for that tow rating I would be pissed.

If I had to guess......cost and weight savings. I think it's why non 4K tow Ecoboost Mavericks have the same low tow rating as the hybrid does, with the trans cooler and altered gearing, the extra heat from towing over 2k would drastically reduce transmission life. I wonder if Ford is kind of rolling the dice here and hoping that the extra trans cooler along with the change in gearing increases longevity on the 8F35 at least in 4K tow models. Also, based on pricing from the Ford Parts site I don't think it's a standard 8F35 due to the increased price for the Maverick 8F35 over the same 8F35 used in other models.

I got a call from the dealership today. They said they have a Ford bronco in the shop with the same transmission that is doing the same thing. He also had stated that a Ford technician will be out on Monday to analyze the transmission before they start working on it.

Ford official account? Thanks for the only email 10 months after your acknowledgement email of my order, appreciation of my patience. It really helps the disdain of your customer service.
Yeah....I figured FORD would get lambasted over their post. Just goes to show that they know EXACTLY what is being said in the mavericktruckclub forums. While our posts go unanswered - they are reading EVERY post. So much for plausible deniability.

There is no doubt weight and especially cost are the main factors in what is supposed to be an inexpensive and economical vehicle. They likely know the trans is good enough if they use the computer to prevent the engine from over torqueing it. I would guess the biggest problems occur when starting hard from a standing stop with a heavy towing load. The truck has plenty of power, this is not something that concerns me.

It doesn't make sense that they would use a different version of the trans and use the same model number. Where's the cost savings if they have to make different ones?

Between the lower gearing, transmission cooler and computer control it would surprise me if the trans has problems unless you use it to tow heavy loads constantly. Ford doesn't want to have to fix these things under warranty.

Simple as most manufacturers are designing for at 1.5 sigma to save money and since everything is simulated now, they design to 1.5 sigma

https://www.isixsigma.com/new-to-six-sigma/dmaic/15-sigma-process-shift/

Ford should be paying attention to this and this is where the problem lies in new designs lowering the standard of reliability to 1.5 is the issue at hand.

High stress components will the first to fail.

Also this type of designing leaves zero room during assembly for sloppy work as there is no grace in the design to deal with incomitance of labor.

Started about a week ago, I was driving and it felt like I bumped the car into neutral, just started revving high. I stopped in a parking lot and shut the car off and restarted it and it seemed fine for a little bit. Fast forward a couple days and the first three gears were a little jumpy. This morning I was heading to work going about 40 miles an hour and there was a large thump, which sounded like plastic breaking and grinding. It immediately threw a check engine light. I coasted into a parking lot. I shut it down, restarted it and drove it to the dealership. Every time I began accelerating after a light change, it would rev up to about 4000-4500 rpm before it would start rolling.

Sounds like the same problem transmission they put on my 2014 ford focus.

I was just thinking in my mind that all these problems I see were just on the Hybrids and I haven't really heard anything on the Ecoboosts. Now this. I'll monitor to see if this happens on my own. I knew going in that this would not be a completely reliable vehicle or something on par with an older Toyota or Honda but really, what car is perfect? None. Any manufacturer you go to there's bound to be some problem(s). So far, knock on wood for mine but I've only had it for a week. Time will tell. Hopefully at the 2k mile mark this won't be a concern.

Good luck! Seems to be a one off situation. Sucks it happened to you, but I’m sure they will make it right.
Waiting in st.paul...man hope this is isolated..1st year models have always been 2 fold .cool and original but worries me about the kinks that haven't been discovered.

Mine has been In The shop 3 times
1st time exhaust sensor was corroded
2nd time transmission jumping in out of gear the sensor had water in it
3rd time fault with charging system, there were connectors corroded in the front bumper. Not super happy
They're just sitting too long waiting for the final delivery..this waiting is really getting old.

I wouldn’t be too concerned. We get 3/36 bumper to bumper, 5/60 power train, 8/80 emission, and hybrid systems get 8/100. The systems are also stolen from other vehicles. Issues come up on all years of makes and models.

If you haven't done this do it. When I had a problem they were great and it ended with my truck fully repaired (mine was a bad seal on wire harness that let water in) and a free extended service and maintenance plus they can speed up the process.

The Ford Rep reached out on here for mine that's how they knew there was an issue to help with
Sounds like a great benefit to being a member of the maverick truck club 😁
