This is what 6/32" looks like.
People (the mind in general) do not comprehend how small 1/32" is. Maybe our perceptions are skewed by all the "knobby" off-road tires people use on streets.

6/32" at 23,000 miles means the stock factory tires are not crap, but on the good side average.

My 22 hybrid xl went in for a little recall work. Their end to end check up indicated my tires to be good. Only a few weeks have gone by and the tires seem to bulge/wrinkle in the sidewalls here and there. This does not seem like a good thing.

Replaced the Continentals after 350 miles just so I didn't end up in the same situation. Also picked up a screw in the sidewall that accelerated the replacement plan. I kept one for a true full size spare. Used tire store gave me $20 for the remaining two.
I was really shocked how thin the sidewalls were. Not much more than an inner tube.

our Bronco Sport had the factory Continentals tires wear out at 25000km, well below the 65k km a new tire would have warranteed for. Ford nor Continental would step up on the tires. Like others, a sidewall puncture accelerate replacing them with the same tires from my new Maverick lol.
Put Nokian WR G4's on the Mav.
The Mav's continentals have another 10k km on them now on the OB Bronco Sport and so far are fine and haven't been flagged. But expecting the dealer to flag them for replacement when we hit around 60k kms.

Bottom line the OE tires are junk and will last maybe 50% of the lifespan of the retail tire. There's many write ups out there about the issue. It affects all tire and car manufacturers. Simply put, the tire makers are selling their retail rejects to the manufacturers. Not good enough for retail, but good enough for OEM.

It's funny when you have that one member who has the Goldilocks experience with a piece of crap like the Continentals tires and jumps thru hoops to make sure everyone who has had a bad experience with them know that they are wrong just because they haven't experienced those problems.

If everything goes exactly perfect and you never have to pull off of perfect pavement you may never have problems with the Continentals. If everything doesn't you will find just how crappy they are.

I have put 24 years of 6 miles per day testing on tires on my dirt road. The Continentals are by far the worst tire I have ever had on a vehicle. My road was in the best shape it has ever been in when we got our Maverick and the Continentals were cut to pieces with 3 flats in 3,300 miles. They proved to be absolutely unusable for me.

The only thing I regret is not knowing how bad they were and having new/used tires I could not resell due to being cut to pieces and plugged and patched. I recommend anyone who may pull off of a perfect road get rid of the Contis before they are cut up and unsaleable.

You would have thought Ford learned their lesson with the Firestone debacle on Explorers

I replaced my Continentals about two weeks ago at 20,000 miles with Michelin Defender 2 with 80,000 specs. What a difference in noise and ride, even got rid of most of my rattles in the dash.

I have 4/32 left at 19k miles. I'll wait til 30k unless I'm past the 2/32 wear bar and Michelin's are at the top of my list.

I looked up an unexpected source for tire at Ford. A set of four has a $100 rebate and there's another offer for military/first responders for $80. I'd like to know if they're stackable.

Something is off. 21,000 miles on Continential OEM tires easily still have 8,000 more miles left on them. Did a 1,000 dirt road trip last summer.

Edit: Now at 29,000 miles and still have 4,000-6,000 left on the tires.

Add me to the list of folks needing early tire replacement. Had a tire repair done today and the tire guy pointed out the wear bars. He explained that he sees this a lot with Ford. He said the tire makers ship lower spec tires to Ford to meet the price demands of Ford's bean counters. He went on to explain that buying the same tire on the open market actually gets you a better quality tire. He says routinely replaces Ford tires under 24,000 miles - sometimes at 14,000 miles or so.

I took all that with a grain of salt, but in normal use (no towing, no heavy loads, nothing but commuting) my OEM Continentals are history at 24,000 miles. I'll replace with Michelins - always my favorite tire.

Have you noticed a drop in mpg? My trucks got almost 16k, and the stock contis look good. But I ran a set of snows over the winter, so I'm guessing, I'm only at 10ish K with them.

Mine were at either 5 or 6/32 at the last oil change done at 30k miles. They've been rotated at every oil change which I do around every 5k and one has a nail in it that has been slimed and driven that way for over 25k now. These tires will easily last to 40- 45k on this truck if I decide to keep them on. I just bought a new set since they were on sale so the question becomes am I going to wait till the Continentals wears out to mount them or do them now.

Bottom line unless you obsess over tires, they are good enough for standard driving conditions. Only times I've had issues with them is in heavy rains where the truck hydroplaned when it shouldn't have if I had a better tire and in the snow. In the snow the AWD really did work well though to compensate for the tires. If I hadn't had AWD I'd probably been fishtailing the rear all over the place trying to accelerate.

If you didn't have AWD, you'd have FWD.
