15'000 miles and the continental tires are almost bald. I am 70 and not a hotroder with a heavy foot. 15K and need to be replaced WTF?
My XLT EB AWD 4K tow has 27k plus and has 50% or more tread left.

It's well known in the industry that the OEM tires are not the same quality as the ones you get from a tire store, even with the same tire.
I bought a 2000 F 150 4x2 New and got 75000 miles out of original good years. All Highway though and rotations every 5k

I just replaced mine on my 22 Mav with 40,167 miles, replaced with Defender 2's. Rotated with every oil change.

Like I said in other posts, they are an inferior tire in the Continental tire line up. Continental does make great tires (just not these) There is another post on MTC forum stating that the factory tires only have 8/32 of tread, where retail tires have 11/32 of tread.
I made the analogy of: When you buy a new printer, it comes with a "Starter cartridge" only designed to print 100-150 pages. Then you have to purchase a Real Cartridge capable of printing 1000+ pages.
I took my stock tires & wheels off at 36 miles and replaced them with real tires.

It's like the ink in a new printer...

Sorry man. Soft as a balloon ain't it? When you push on that sidewall you realize how thin that trash is. After seeing how much my dirt road carved them up I knew they had to come off mine for safety.

Our last 2 new vehicles were Escapes, 2015 and 2018 respectively, with Michelin tires from the factory, one set was worn out at 20K, the other I milked to 30K, but they were obviously not the quality of Michelin we would buy at a tire retailer.. I replaced both sets with Continentals( ProContact DWS on 1 and ProContact LX25 on the other) and have had great satisfaction with them, it's not the brand but more so the "spec" or the vehicle manufacturers budget that dictates oe tire life. Just like a line from one of my favorite movies " Armageddon" where actor Steve Buscemi said, "You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon, and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. " That is basically how the tires were picked for the Maverick, by who had the lowest bid. NOTE: They put Michelins on the Lariat packaged Mavericks, but for most people they will probably not see 40-50000 miles out of them like they would a retail Michelin.
The Michelin Primacy (The line of Michelin OEM's that are used by a lot of vehicle manufacturer's. The lariat has these and on Michelin web site the show 8/32" tread and are rated 45k miles tread wear and recommend rotation when uneven wear is seen (expected at 3k to 6k miles). The after market version has 9/32" tread and is rated 55k miles. I personally have 27.5k miles on mine have rotated at 7k oil changes wear is within 1/32" with lowest at 3.2/32". One wear factor is in Texas is the roads are chip sealed (very hard crushed rock which have very sharp edges and points sprinkled on hot tar every year or two). Also day /night temps can be 30-40°F variance so tire pressure can vary 10-12psi which doesn't help. I will most likely replace my Michelin OEM tires at no later than 32k miles and maybe at my 28k oil change NEXT WEEK.

I read this thread after driving up to the Rio Rancho Landfill (which is the best view in town, but we all know how much of a tire killer they are) and mine were unscathed. But never again.

This is a dumb concept.

The difference is cost is $.01 to make a tire with 11/32" vs 8/32". It's not worth it to have two sku numbers. They are not made from gold.

There must be a different reason.

Mine wore fast at first, then slowed down. The wear rate is deceptive at first. Fooled the dealer too who wanted to sell me tires at 14k. They are at least 35k tires. Or are supposed to be.

Probably a huge cost difference on bulk orders as well as the weight of shipping. Little differences add up when you are talking thousands of units.

My Tacoma had 10/32" tread Hankook dynapros in it and the same tire aftermarket has 13/32". I bought Toyo and Firestone take offs and both had 10/32" as well.

I'm saying cost is negligible.

Weight may be a reason.

Higher MPG may be another.

Let me know, how do these stock tires look? Tread Depth wise.

That tread be lookin' shallow, sir. Shallow! About to put them back on after a winter on real rubber (Mich X-ICE SUV). Not really lookin' forward to it but mileage is good. I baby the tires, though. 10 -15 mph off-road.
