Our 2023 Maverick (included in the engine recall) and built in Mexico, threw a powertrain code on a major highway. We were lucky to find an exit on a restricted mountain highway. It would start tomove a few feet downhill but would not go uphill. Of course after it was towed to the dealer it started and worked fine. The code could not be reproduced. Our dealer spent two weeks looking at it. We were ready to give up on the truck. They then sent a report to Ford HQ and we were approved for the engine long block replacement. We have decided to give it a second chance and we are pleased with Ford's response. It took a month or so to get it all done. I still carry a fire extinguisher in the truck. We are thankful to Jim Burke Ford Bakersfield for their professionalism during this event.

Awesome to hear you got taken care of and that your dealer worked diligently with Ford to get you back on the road!

Glad to hear. Also not a bad idea to carry one anyhow. The amount of fires on the road is crazy. I see them all the time.

That is indeed great news!
How does it affect selling a vehicle with a new engine. Should it get noted on a title or is it a good faith statement to a buyer? Just curious about that.

It's not that big of a deal. No need to disclose it, a Carfax may show the repair as under warranty. For every person that thinks a new engine should make the vehicle worth more, there will be one bemoaning that it's not "original".

I suspect most people would look at least somewhat favorably on a new engine, vs a swapping in a used engine later in the chassis life span. Part of the reason it's not great either way is that a lot of work goes into the process, especially now with all the electronics. The people working at the factory do that task every single day and are likely a lot better at it than a tech at the dealership.

Thanks for the discussion. Yes the odometer does stay the same. What I am unsure of is if the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty is still in effect on the new engine. Also I have three pages of notes regarding the engine replacement and list of parts and courtesy check of other systems.

Any other major components replaced?

For me it would be a big negative. In the perfect world if you had the best Ford tech and unlimited time to do the job it might be as good as new but who is to say that Melvin shows up with very little experience and the shop forman is on him to hurry because Ford does not pay many hour to do the job, so short cuts are taken, bolts stripped or not torqued to spec. I think I would drive it as long as it does not rattle, shake or leak. If I had any inclination something was not right I would be trading it in. That is just me. I get rid of wrecked and repaired cars for same reason.

You still get the 10/150k warranty...

The CarFax will show it as a long block replacement. I've now seen two used Mavericks at dealers that showed the long block replacement.

I would expect the new engine would come with the standard 5/60k warranty and not the 8/100k engine fire special warranty.
