Finalized preview sheet with dealer today over the phone and was told they would put in the order immediately after the call. E-mail from Ford (via reply <at> t.email-ford.com) arrived 15 mins later.

I was told the order was placed on Thursday by salesman. I don't think it was. Had some communication with sales manager Friday and was told I'd see an email shortly. Then got an email from Ford about an hour later.
I've heard this story several times already. The dealer or salesman "calling his shot" in response to a disgruntled customer's plea for action! Several have said "You'll see it(email)in a half hour". They seem to know when it will arrive after submission!

I got an email yesterday from ford after placing my order saying congrats blah blah blah…then today I got a text from my sales guy with a tracking number. Is this tracking number to only be used in conjunction with the VIN once I get scheduled or is there something else I can do with it to literally track it?

That's the first I've heard of a tracking number upon submitting an order. To me, it is great news that your salesman is communicating with you!

There is a field called "Tracking Number" as part of the order enrollment process. It is on a screen where it says something like "thanks for enrolling this order. Your claim is being reviewed and you will hear back within 72 hours. Call Ford Corporate if you have questions". It is a dealer thing, not a customer facing thing.

Here is mine from my 2022 order. I don't think customers usually see this. I got it when I was pressing my dealer for the "proof" of COVP/ROVP approval. This wasn't proof, but it is something they sent me.
I got the same thing from my dealer this morning. I ordered yesterday and hadn't received an email. Sent him a text because I wanted confirm my order had been submitted. He kind of brushed me off but forwarded me the same information.

Should I just be waiting on a confirmation email?

I placed my order on the 15th, around 4:30. Next morning I had my email confirmation from Ford.

I dont know about your salesman but Tom Spicer at Coconut Point Ford in on top of everything. If you need a ford in SW Florida look him up.

I placed my order on the 16th and hadn't eceived an email. I wound up having to bug my sales rep a couple times and show him an example of a confirmation email. Once I did that I received my confirmation email within 20 mins. If you never got the email, definitely bug them to make sure they actually filed your order as the banks are closing in a few days!

Also, Ford chat is useful. I was able to confirm my order through them as I never got an email. My dealership is closed Sundays and so I would have had to wait until tomorrow if the email didn't generate.
