Because when you leave out of the driver's side door and use the door handle to open the door you're brushing against the lock when you pull the handle and locking it. To clarify I'm not saying you're hitting the power door lock button, I'm saying you're hitting the actual door lock which is right next to/above the pull handle for the door as you can see in the photo above. It's a terrible design by Ford and seemingly anyone with larger size hands will have the same problem.

This must be it. I thought I heard mine lock itself a couple times it happened but this hybrid is always clicking and making noises and there's been times I knew it was open because it didn't t make a noise and it wasn't t but always just the driver's door. Now I will be more aware of the actual interior lock. Thanks

I was definitely having this issue the 1st week of owning. For me, it was after I pulled the handle, I was pushing the door open from the same area and causing it to lock. Since I realized what was happening, I usually push it open from further back or from the lower handle in a 2nd motion.

Let me first say this comment isn't to berate anyone or put them down.

I didn't know people actually left keys in their vehicles. I am wayyy too cautious about having my keys on me and not leaving anything valuable in my vehicle. It probably just has to do with where I live. Vehicle theft is all too common where I live and people have no problem breaking a window to get any valuables. Just glad I don't drive a kia/hyundai because they're massive targets.

Happened to me tonight. Parked and went in to gas station. Left the key fob in the truck. Came out to find driver door locked. Thought i was screwed. Tried driver rear door, and it was unlocked. Haven't yet set a pin for keypad, but will be doing this tomorrow.
You should have a card with the code on it from the factory in the glove box. I put mine in my wallet

THis happens to me everyday and NO it's not me brushing against the auto locks.

First the lock and unlock buttons lock ALL doors.

Second, mine doesn't lock until after a few minutes. This is an issue they need to fix.

Hi Vin! I can look into your Maverick's lock concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Maverick's VIN?

I have the same issue as Vmontello. I have gotten into the habit of rolling down my window, just in case, but I shouldn't have to worry about that if everything worked correctly, right?

I keep just a door key hidden under my vehicles and a spare ignition key well hidden in all my vehicles. Have never lost my keys but just never want to be in that situation.
Willing to disclose that I do the exact same. If someone is able to find where inside my truck the ignition key is hidden, they can have my Maverick. I expect most dumb/opportunistic car thieves who somehow find my door key will just sit there trying to start the truck over and over with the door key, even though it is a "dumb" key and not coded to disable the engine immobilizer. It technically could be coded to my Maverick, but it isn't, so there is no way to identify that it isn't coded other than the fact that it won't start the engine. And I expect a car thief would eventually just give up and steal the dollar in change I have in my cup-holder.

Had my Mac for two weeks and thought my wife was messing with me.
All doors are unlocked when I leave the truck. Only the driver door is locked the next morning. Keys in truck glad I had FordPass programmed…. Why only the driver’s door If I was hitting the button shouldn’t it should be locked after leaving? Could this be a Mexican Gremlin or one of Ford’s better ideas? Anyone have a fix before I go back to the dealer?

Happens to me all the time. I just use the app to unlock it again.

Yes, has happened to me several times and I AM the culprit. Have caught myself doing it and now I open the door and before I get out, glance over at the lock lever. Yep, still will do it occasionally. You are correct, crappy design. Does Ford get the graduating engineers from the bottom of the list? Just sayin.

Interesting. This has been happening to me. I pulled around to my garage the other day and hopped out, with the truck running, to hose the truck off. I went to get back in and the drivers door was locked, with the key in the ignition, truck running. My phone was plugged in to the console so I couldn't use the app to unlock it. Then I tried the back door and it was unlocked. It happened again this morning. Now I see that I must be locking it when I open the door. I'll keep an eye on that.

I've heard mine lock as I'm walking away. Locked at the carwash last week but the wife was sitting in it. Seems to be getting less and less with updates.

I was wondering the same thing. Since I stopped resting my hand against door as I open door magically the drivers door has stopped locking me out.
I like these fixes! 🙂
