HOWEVER----If I intentionally hit the lock button, ALL the the doors will lock. So why would only the driver's door lock? ALSO--it sometimes locks when I approach the door with key in hand. ALSO--I have completely locked myself out when I left the key in the ignition and my phone was locked in also. Had to call an actual locksmith! This is the first vehicle I've had in a long time that lets you lock the key inside. My previous Prius would not lock at all if the key was inside; that's a good feature to me!
Good day

You have a lot going on at your end, it seems.

Let's just focus on what this thread is trying to answer "driver door only, locking for some reason".

The driver door has a manual door lock and an electronic door lock.

Do not mix them up! The manual door lock (sit in your truck and look at it...please see above photos or the trucks manual for its location).

Now look forward a bit and see where the door opening handle is, right in front of the manual lock.

Notice that if you pull on said door open handle and push the door open in one movement it is very easy to accidentally push on the manual lock lever!

Then when you close the door from the outside, the driver door only is locked...go to the passenger door and confirm it is unlocked.

Now get back in the truck... after unlocking it, of course. Close the door and look where, forward of the door open handle is the electronic button that should lock all the doors when you press it.

For any other door locking issues, may I suggest you start a different thread to describe your particular issue? Or maybe make an appt with your dealer if we can't help you here, as that is a separate problem.

I hope this helps,

Andy

Theories are not proof.

Your premise is not based on any scientifically accepted methodology. It's bunk.
Good day

Please have a look at the explanation I just gave my previous post on how to prove (or disprove) our theory/answer to the whole accidental driver door lock issue.

Then, if still not satisfied, after testing the theory yourself, explain to me what your point of contention is.

To prove or disprove our "theory", it may be best to go out to your truck, sit in it and go theough the process.

This should help with your belief on how the driver door is being inadvertently
Locked.

Cheers,

Andy

Even ford acknowledge, it was owner induced.
Ford Maverick Door locking incident... 20260405_080655

Not one person has been able to honestly replicate their experience of an uncommanded auto-door locking on video.

I figure the manual is a way to get out if the door doesn’t unlock after a crack, electric fail, submerge or if you must escape.
Now that is probably why the manual lock and handle are on the same pivot point.
In emergency likely to automatically know how to pull handle, which opens lock, even if you have to do it twice in back seat.
But if you had to remember to roll a manual unlock thing elsewhere, could take valuable seconds.
Of course my old Rav4 they figured out how to mechanically roll that with door handle opening.

Reread - missed several points.

All my prior vehicles were older - I could lock keys in ignition every single one, even running.
Even those with remote lock/unlock.

This has nothing to do with the power lock “button.” It’s literally post #4 in this thread. There is a manual lever that only locks the door it’s attached to.

I love how every time this comes up the OP thanks us for the answer and then randos show up to troll the thread for pages. Moderators might need to start locking answered threads.

Meanwhile this kind of shared comedy will make this a long lasting forum because the steady among us will stick around and eventually the trolls will move on.

I admit I cannot even picture where the lock LEVER is on my wife’s car, which I’ve driven for thousands of miles.

I’m only aware of the lever in my months old Maverick because of these threads.

It is an oddity. Ford apparently didn’t have enough old men test the door handles. 😂

As I stated in an earlier response. I saw the title of the thread and had to come in for the comments. Unfortunately, with this issue, you don’t know what is happening until you finally figure it out what is happening. I must admit, it did take me a little bit of paying attention to how I was opening the door to realize I was the problem. And of course, we ALL want to be correct, so live and let live. Happy driving.

So, I went to the bottom of the rhread page and opened an older thread with over 21,000 views!

It was all about the driver door locking "problem" and copied a photo provided by @NoVaJimmy so that I could put it here...it is similar to @Glen Baker LLC photo, just different notes on it!

I Hope this helps...I mean I really, really really hope it helps!

😉

I don't want this thread ending up with 43 or so pages as well...we will have sore thumbs for sure!

My wife's 2016 Escape does not have any manual locking mechanism on the doors, other than pulling on the interior door handle.

There is a difference between lock “button” and lock “lever”, even if they are so close together. Read door locking page in manual then go 👀 at said buttons and levers. You’ll figure it out. 😉

Uh, did you mean to quote the person that my post explained the same exact thing to? I've had it figured out since I bought the truck.

It would help if people would realize that the vehicle (BCM) CAN NOT lock a single door. It isn't possible.
