I guarantee it's there.😁 It blends in so well some never see it.
The lever is there so that you can unlock just the driver's door.

It's a mechanical lock, and all the doors have them, not just the driver's. Vehicles have had electric locks combined with mechanical locks for decades. If you needed to leave your vehicle somewhere with a dead battery...would you not want some way to lock the doors to protect the vehicle and its contents?

Back off gents. I got this one. 😁

You unknowingly Pushed the Lock LEVER as you pushed open your door.
This is a very common phenomenon NEW owners discover with the Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport, because of similar door handle design. Allowing the driver to unconsciously, accidentally, mistakenly, inadvertently lock his door while pushing it open.😱
The fact that you state, the passenger door was unlocked.' confirms 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt. That you accidentally locked the driver's door by unknowingly pushing the lock lever while pushing open the door when you got out of the truck.😉 👇👇

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Tom,
Not that much more can be added but, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to post them.

This actually would be accidentally "commanded".

To leave your keys in the ignition, or fob in the truck purposely (ETA:) for push button start.

Because in those cases if you press the Lock all Button - you get a honk and all unlock.

The Lever is the only way to have all locked on exit as you get out the last door.
Manual - they want to make sure you really wanted this effect.

Good theory - then they designed it goofy and too easy to push!

Another good point, but doesn't apply to those of us with standard keyed ignition.

I can lock my keys in the truck with the electric locks without a double honk and all unlock. Maybe I've turned this off in the menus? That's something I didn't consider before I made that statement.

OK, I get it now, it does that with keys if you leave them in the ignition while locking.. I didn't consider that because in the 4 decades I've been driving I've never done that or had the desire to.

Just ignore my comments above about that functionality...

There have been a few times, very few, where the BMS system seemed willing to actually charge at higher Amps still though my drive was over - I locked the doors while it was on, and used the extra fob in the house to unlock after extra 10 min.

Others have posted about leaving running for AC for doggy during quick errand.

I recall doing that for some friends in older vehicles - where I was pretty sure they weren't going to let me back in, at least timely. Back then just had wallet key to get in.

I figure the manual is a way to get out if the door doesn’t unlock after a crack, electric fail, submerge or if you must escape.

Yes, exactly.

We don't have roll down windows anymore in our vehicles, and that would work to escape in an under water situation...so I have an emergency window breaker situated where hopefully either driver or passenger can reach it.

It also is a seatbelt cutter along with the window breaker. Side and back windows only, of course.

I keep it mounted in the dash pocket.

Thank you very much for probably solving another door lock query thread!

Your post really sorts out the driver door lock issue with no more muss or fuss or drama!

I detest drama...and I like clear answers like this!

Have a good one,

Andy

HOWEVER----If I intentionally hit the lock button, ALL the the doors will lock. So why would only the driver's door lock? ALSO--it sometimes locks when I approach the door with key in hand. ALSO--I have completely locked myself out when I left the key in the ignition and my phone was locked in also. Had to call an actual locksmith! This is the first vehicle I've had in a long time that lets you lock the key inside. My previous Prius would not lock at all if the key was inside; that's a good feature to me!

Don’t bother, there’s always the “Nonbelievers”! “Lock him out”. 😉
Hello Meeka

I like to try and help people out where I can, so I have to ask.

I said in an earlier post that if someone just goes out and sits in their truck and actually looks at the manual locks location, it all should become abundantly clear how depressing the manual lever by accident is easy to do.

And I prefer my locks being happy 😉 (not depressed...)

Have a great day,

Andy

You could always train yourself to reach over and open the door with your right hand...
And not only that, but using your right hand to open the door more or less forces you to look in the mirror for a second. and you're less likely to open the door in front of a passing bicycle or city bus.
