$4K for a catalyetic converter? Damn that's pricey. My 2008 HHR needed a new converter, I was able to buy the whole head pipe , converter and all flange to flange ready to bolt in for about $200. Put it on in my driveway in 1 hour in an afternoon.

Just in case you were wondering about generation definitions... Copied from somewhere..

The breakdown by age looks like this:

  • Baby Boomers: Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. They're currently between 57-75 years old (71.6 million in the U.S.)
  • Gen X: Gen X was born between 1965 and 1979/80 and is currently between 41-56 years old (65.2 million people in the U.S.)
  • Gen Y: Gen Y, or Millennials, were born between 1981 and 1994/6. They are currently between 25 and 40 years old (72.1 million in the U.S.)
    • Gen Y.1 = 25-29 years old (around 31 million people in the U.S.)
    • Gen Y.2 = 29-39 (around 42 million people in the U.S.)
  • Gen Z: Gen Z is the newest generation, born between 1997 and 2012. They are currently between 9 and 24 years old (nearly 68 million in the U.S.)
  • Gen A: Generation Alpha starts with children born in 2012 and will continue at least through 2025, maybe later (approximately 48 million people in the U.S.)

The term “Millennial” has become the popular way to reference both segments of Gen Y (more on Y.1 and Y.2 below).

Sometimes labeled with the moniker “Zillennials”, those wedged at the tail end of Millennials and the start of Gen Z are sometimes labeled with this moniker — a group made up of people born between 1994 and the year 2000.

Originally, the name Generation Z was a placeholder for the youngest people on the planet — although Generation A has now taken over that distinction. However, in the same way that Gen Y morphed into Millennials, there is certainly a possibility that both Gen Z and Gen A may adopt new names as they leave adolescence and mature into their adult identities. While the label Gen A makes discussion easier, it may not be the last word on this group of humans.
Well that really broke it down well. Did not do much for me since I am older than any of the categories listed. But my feelings are not hurt; sometimes it is nice to just loiter in the background and watch those younger than yourself makes the same mistakes you did!!;)

I'm a millennial... But I identify as a boomer.

If anyone needs me, I'll be driving my Maverick back and forth to work every day while providing for my wife and child and generally living out the American dream.
Did we just become best friends!?! YEP!

Oh yeah? In my day, we didn't have seat belts. If you got in an accident, you'd go flying through the windshield and your brains would splatter all over the place. Oh, no, look at me. My brains are splattered all over the tree. And that's the way it was AND WE LIKED IT!

Oh. Wait. Young whippersnapper like you has no clue what skit I'm referencing.

Pic below. Evilbay $87 shipped for Honda element converter. Comes with all the gaskets, new hardware and everything lol. I use the hell out of rockauto too. $4000 for a new converter. That sounds like an OEM honda part installed at a honda dealership. Y'all got bent over, not even a kiss or any lube with that one. I would never buy OEM factory parts to put on an older vehicle unless I cant find it used or aftermarket.

Wifes old van, 2011 dodge caravan had a lifter issue. It wiped out the intake and exhaust cams on the rear bank of the V6. A 3.6L pentastar V6 is 4 cam 24 valve VVT engine. It wasnt anything I was gonna bother fooling with. Top of the rear cylinder bank was coated with fine metal chips and metal dust. Dealer told me a USED replacement engine would be $6000. I told them no. The van is only worth $5000 retail on a good day. I'm not putting more money into it than it's worth. Putting $1000 more into it than it's worth, the vehicle is basically junk at this point. They were getting ready to bend me over for a dry fucking, and I wasnt gonna do it.

I told them this is what I want you to do. Use a shop vac to clean it out. Then use an air blower to get the rest, and solvent to flush all the tiny metal dust on that cylinder head into the oil pan before you take the top end apart. Replace both cams on the rear bank, all the lifters, all the rollers, all the followers. Drain the oil. Change the oil and filter and give it back to me. How much for that? Service writer says $1600. Then he says it's not going to work.

I told him, you ever hear of marvel mystery oil? He said yes. I told him, I have 12 oil filters for this van. I buy them in bulk at rock auto. I plan on douching this pig out. Shes gonna drive it 50 miles, then I'm gonna change the filter and oil and add marvel. Then shes gonna drive it 250 miles, and change oil, and filter and add marvel. Third time gonna change just the filter at 500 miles. Then again an oil and filter change at 1,000 miles. After that changed oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Each time I changed the filter I opened it up and inspected for metal, and ran a magnet over the flattened out filter pleats. By the time it hit 3000 miles there was no more metal being captured by the filters. When I did them constant oil changes I just bought cheap oil at walmart since it wouldent be in there very long. She drove it 2 more years and racked up 30,000 more miles with no issues before we traded it up.

My daily driver 2008 chevy HHR needed a taillight. I hit the salvage yard. $5. Good enough. Eventually all the speakers went out, same junkyard. Found a wrecked HHR that somebody had installed pioneer perfect replacement speakers in years prior to its demise. These are direct plug n play speakers. $20 for 4 speakers. They all worked just fine.

My current daily which the Maverick will replace needs lower control arms badly. Its a 2008 Chevy HHR. This is where American cars excel. GM uses the same parts on a lot of models. Like a lot of models, and for a decent span of years. The lower control arms I need fit not only HHR but chevy cobalt, chevy Malibu, pontiac G4, pontiac G6, Saturn VUE and several others. Chevy wants $150 apiece. The aftermarket they are $89 a pair. May not be as quality as OEM. But considering I plan to keep this car as a spare vehicle for whoever in my family needs to borrow it once the maverick comes in they will last long enough. I will put it on jack stands in my driveway, and swap em out in about an hour.

I know Ford designed and marketed this vehicle for millennials, guys with hair buns and hipsters. Nevertheless, this is our truck. It is probably the most functional vehicle ever made and we old dudes figured this out when it was launched. It is the truck equivalent of a bucket hat, belt with a hidden money spot sewn in, belly pack and trousers that let you remove the legs with a zipper! Stop defending it when people dismiss it as a "trucklette" or call it "cute." You are only driving up the price and making it harder to get.

I'm 65 but I often skew closer to Millennial than Boomer when it comes to values and opinions. This truck, if it ever arrives, will rock with Grateful Dead, yoga, Baby Yoda (Grogu) decals and "Endless Summer" Florida vanity tag. If it's a chick magnet I won't object. Enthusiastic Consent!

64 years young here. Getting ready to retire. Ordered the maverick hybrid in october as a retirement present to myself.. I dont mind waiting. I have several vehicles in my drive way. For me its the most practical vehicle between a car and a full size pickup and gets great gas mileage. And more practical for me than a suv. I test drove a new ford escape hybrid and really liked it but decided a pickup box works better for hauling stuff.. So i ordered the maverick. its cheap enough i can pay cash. yes its small but i have a full size gas guzzler when i need a big truck. Hopefully one of these days i can actually drive it. been interesting reading all these responses to the original post. i too have been wishing for a new small pickup to come out. Ive had several S-10s and a ranger.

I've been trying to find a good element for years, people just don't sell them much and if they do they have like 200k miles on them and want 12k. I've often thought about knocking on peoples doors and asking if they were interested in selling theirs. Of course I want the one without the plastic fenders and AWD, those seem to the rarest.
Mine has 205,000 body color fenders and is front wheel drive. Check, check and check :) I will keep it for a few months so I have transportation if any warranty work needs done on my Mav. I have had a few offers from people wanting to buy it, but I just can't let it go yet.

same...I think? I'm 41.
Your way too young at 41 I was still chasing girls at 41. At 71 my beard is gray and very excited about getting my mav this month its been a long 8 months. I worked for BMW for a very long time and got a new demo every 3/4k but always kept a pickup in the driveway for weekends. I had them all FORD, CHEV, DODGE, NEVER HAD TO WAIT FOR ONE, and I think the 8 months that I waited for this one builds excitement, I just hope it lasts a while it got my blood pumping again and I got to meat all these young mav guys.

Got you all beat, I'm 84, but wish I could turn the clock back a few years LOL! Ordered Mavrick, Hybrid 7/26/21, Lariat, RR, First Edition, Lux Pkg, CoPilot 360. Received Vin & build date week of May 9th, last week Ford bumped it back to week of 5/16. Hopefully the last delay. I don't have that many years left - Want to enjoy the truck.
Hats off to you!!! I ordered the same except EB for my dad to switch from F150 and he celebrates 85 in two weeks. Sadly we have had zero news on our order which was placed in August
huh—I didn't write that...

Already too late, I think. Mob mentality has taken over. I don't expect to take delivery of my order. I fully expect the dealership to play tricks, markups, etc, in which case I'm out. The value proposition will quickly be lost.

The Mav is really nice, but not any type of "quality of life" upgrade. My old minivan eats payload for breakfast, I upgraded the rear shocks. It's cheap and paid for with plenty of power. In fact, a new Mav will set my retirement savings back a year. The Maverick isn't a game changer, this is simply a supply and demand issue.
