Anyone else on here done the brakes themselves on their Maverick? My local garage wants $1000 an axle. I’m thinking I can do a lot better buying the parts and doing it myself in the driveway. Can anyone tell me what you need for parts from rock auto and what you need for tools? Anything specialized?

Just curious how many miles you have?? I checked my brake pads at 25,000 miles and lots of life left in both the front and rear pads. I do believe that you don't need any special tools, however you need to set "brake service mode" to replace the rear pads. Do a search on "replace brake pads" on this forum and you will get other owners who have replaced their brakes.

Some EcoBoost owners reported having trouble activating brake service mode. Have any idea if this is still an issue?? Thank you for posting the documentation!

I haven't done the Maverick yet, but I have done at least a half dozen brake jobs myself.

Using RockAuto parts, I would get the Powerstop Geomet coated rotors + Akebono pads. If you want to do the job right, also wire wheel the hub surface to remove any crud, and re-grease the caliper slides.

I swear the further north you go, the bigger the grift. My daughter paid $500 in Virginia for rear brakes. I called around too. Everybody was $500. I know road salt does its damage, but that's just so crazy to me. I went ahead and did her fronts when I visited. Good Akebono pads are ~$60. I generally put ~200K miles on my rotors before I replace them, and when I do replace they are like $30 to $40 each. $1K is nuts!

I'm at about 48.5K miles and it's looking like I'll be doing them come spring. For the extra cost of the rotors, I'll be doing them too (rear has some wear lines in the middle so they would need turned).
A job I'll do myself for sure.

Never did a Maverick brake job but did many others. The last one was two years ago on a Dodge Charger. I used high end pads/rotors and total cost was $500 for all four including slider seals and anti-rattle clips. That’s at crazy inflated Canadian prices.

I think $1000 per axle is ridiculous. The garage must be planning on a full days labor to change two brakes.

Definitely do it yourself or get prices from other garages.

My '22 hybrid seems finicky. Have had it work no issues, but one time it was reluctant.

Cheers.

That price is crazy! Can I ask how many miles on your maverick?

Our pads also look almost new at 31,000 miles.

Nice to see here it’s a normal brake job except the Service mode which is now also pretty normal. I am a bit disappointed not to have seen a response from a high milage hybrid user here with milage info so I could see if I can expect to go 90k before changing pads. Defining hybrid vs EB is critical due to the large impact regen braking has. My hybrid Escape went 90k before a brake job and then it was a normal job. My 83k hybrid Chevy Volt never had a brake job before I sold it. Hope my hybrid Mav does the same. Rotors will rust/wear uneven and thus may need to be replaced w pads- crazy you can’t find someone to turn them anymore.

Might be time for me to get a controller that will execute the brake service/maintenance mode. My Subaru needs it as well, I didn't want to invest $300-400 on an OBD tool, so I bought all the rotors/pads myself. Did the front brakes myself, and then handed the rear parts to a friendly shop and they did the rear for $150.

Theoretically the tool would pay for itself in 2 uses. Anybody know how expensive of an OBD tool to pull off the Maverick's brake maintenance mode?
