I read all the responses and was puzzled by many of the reasons to hate the rotary shifter. As many commented, it works for me quite well. After starting the truck in the garage or parking space, one click to the right puts it into reverse, and a quick spin to the right puts it into drive after backing into the street. Then you only have to turn off the key fob to put it into park after completing your drive. The only thing needing some concentration is going from drive to reverse, and the comment about trying to rock when stuck by transitioning between forward and reverse might really be an issue that I have yet to encounter. The only real issue that I have encountered is the tendency to try to shift gears by turning the climate control fan knob.
My only complaint about the Ford Maverick is the bed light on/off push button that has no indicator to tell you when the light is on.
