Recently when I started my Mav, it started making loud noises and seemed jumpy. My husband said it was not in park when started and that was the problem?? Anyone else experience this? It has happened twice now??

Your husband doesn't know what he's talking about. Once the engine is turned off, it defaults to Park.

Wife is driving. My phone (Galaxy S20) is sitting in the cubby, kind of sticking halfway out, but staying put. Going into a large roundabout at a decent speed, phone falls out of the cubby and knocks the dial into Neutral right as my wife is needing to accelerate through the turn and steps on the gas. Momentary panic, set dial back to Drive, and continue on our way.

After 5 months, I no longer hardly look at it. One notch to the right to back out of the garage, then I SPIN it to the right. It can't do anything but end up in Drive. Come to a stop somewhere to park, SPIN it to the left and it will be in Park. Probably would have worked just as well to have the dial STOP at Park and Drive, but it wasn't that hard to get to learn to spin for 3+ clicks in either direction.

And although I have not gotten into the (bad?) habit of just pressing the Off Button when stopped in Drive, it will automatically go into Park, all on its own.

Different as hell, but like driving a scooter, it is easier if you don't look down.
count me as team rotary. i am about 4 months in and almost never look down anymore to shift gears. there IS a learning curve if this is your 1st rotary shifter no doubt, but Ford's rotary design decisions are growing on me & i appreciate the additional storage opportunities it allows.

what took longer to get used to for me is how it will automatically shift into park whenever the drivers door is opened with your foot on the brakes.
my spot in the garage is very tight and if i open the door to confirm if i'm where i want to be, if i need to adjust position i have to remember to shift back into the appropriate gear.

i dont view this as a bug but actually a safety feature that should help with unintended rollaway incidents. my only other observation is this rotary shifter does NOT play well with abrupt D to R or R to Drive transitions. good luck 'rocking' this baby free if you get stuck. full disclosure i got my '23 Lariat Hybrid in late April so i have no 1st hand knowledge of this.

I don't drive our Mav daily, it is my wife's so I am not used to the shifter. As I posted earlier I sometimes struggle to find where I want to shift to. It mostly happens when I'm trying to turn around--pull in, shift to reverse then back to drive and get lost on where it is. I feel like if I daily-drove it I would get the hang of it.

I asked her tonight what she thought about it vs a stalk type shifter. She said "It's fine but it feel like it is sometimes slow to respond" #shrug#

How about voice command shifting - ZF already have a patent for it.

That saying.." don't drink and drive" could and should be applied to FSD, which is Years from being perfected. ( FSD> full self driving, as in only Tesla cars, I think. I don't know anyone else that is attempting do design and mfg another system like that one.)Off topic? yeah....
I’ll give you Off Topic, what about the latest talk about, Flying Cars😳
I think that’s a problem already the way people drive these days, keeping all 4 wheels on the ground 😡

Don't they have driverless cabs already?

I would 100% buy a manual.
i could totally see a Ecoboost manual version, but i have a hard time seeing how you could implement a manual shifter into the present Hybrid powertrain.
just consider the thousands of per second engine demand/performance measurements & adjustments being made just by the engine control module, as in what percentage of propulsion should be from the electric motor vs ICE engine.
or consider the Ecvt tranny system that is very competent at keeping the vehicle in the optimum power band as much as possible, no offense but most drivers wont be as good/efficient at this as the ECM is. i am in no way a powertrain engineer but it sure seems like it would be a WHOLE LOT of trouble for Ford to go through to satisfy a tiny % of its potential customers.
i wouldnt hold my breath waiting on stick shift Maverick folks, and a Hybrid stick shift from Ford will probably never happen.

I’m not sure why anyone worries about finding park. Drive to the spot you are going to park the truck and shut it off. Hardly ever need neutral. Drive and reverse is all I care about.
you are 100% correct Sir. it just aint that complicated IMHO. spin it to the right and youre n drive. spin it all the way left & 1 click back to the right and youre in reverse. if you parked head in just 1 click to the right and youre in reverse and ready to back out(be sure to look around 1st).
also as another poster remarked gear position is displayed in the gage cluster also.
when you get to where youre going and parked just kill the engine and youre in park. i love it.
it's different but different isnt the same as 'bad' or 'worse'.

First mistake - swing across the street in our little Cul-de-sac to back into my driveway, turn shifter two clicks - lurch forward nearly into my neighbor's yard.
Backing out of a parking space - still rolling slowly, switch to Drive, engaged Park with a jolt. Even at minimal speed stopping nearly 4000 lbs with a little pawl can't be good.
I expect that over minimal speed park is locked out, don't intend to try it though.
Overall, I like the rotary shifter. I had it in my 2019 Edge Titanium, although it was a bit different in that it would not free spin after reaching the gear. I had my moments as well but learned that one must train the foot and hand to work together. First apply brake, then change gears. Problem solved.
