Rotary shifter sucks

I'm not a fan of the rotary shifter, are you?
I read all the responses and was puzzled by many of the reasons to hate the rotary shifter. As many commented, it works for me quite well. After starting the truck in the garage or parking space, one click to the right puts it into reverse, and a quick spin to the right puts it into drive after backing into the street. Then you only have to turn off the key fob to put it into park after completing your drive. The only thing needing some concentration is going from drive to reverse, and the comment about trying to rock when stuck by transitioning between forward and reverse might really be an issue that I have yet to encounter. The only real issue that I have encountered is the tendency to try to shift gears by turning the climate control fan knob.

My only complaint about the Ford Maverick is the bed light on/off push button that has no indicator to tell you when the light is on.

Nope: I'm still occasionally shifting into Park from Reverse as I leave my driveway, and it always surprises me...but I attribute this to being a profound 'lefty' and have been getting things backwards for 60+ years.

I mistake the fan control for the shifter alot...and yes, I too wish there was a little LED to tell me when the cargo lights are on.

The rotary shifter has prevent me from making a a big mistake several times. I've driven standard my whole life so it's just natural to grab the lever and try to move it. I've done that with rental and loner vehicles but with the rotary there's nothing to grab so no mistakes.

Like anything else that is new, it is taking awhile to get used to. Since I only have 780 miles on my Mav, I am still getting used to it. It is not in the way, but I wonder what would happen, if one was to spill a liquid on it.
I, too, like the fact, if I turn off the engine and it isn't in park, it shifts to Park automatically. My Honda Passport did the same, but the buttons on that took at least 10 inches of console.
BTW. I learned to drive on a Plymouth wagon with push button automatic on the dash left of the steering wheel.
Don’t like it much but will probably get used to it. Took me at least 30 years to accept that an automatic transmission was better than a stick shift

I’ve always had trouble adjusting to new technology.
Way back when, a friend and his wife showed up with a brand new Pontiac GTO. My wife and I jumped in and the owner let me take the wheel. We found a deserted stretch of highway and he encouraged me to see what the GTO could do.
The GTO had a shift lever in the console and you could either let the tranny do its own thing or manually move the shift lever to a higher gear.
I put the shift in the first slot and stomped on the gas, the engine roared and away we went. The tach needle jumped to near red line. I grabbed the floor shifter and stomped on the clutch to go up a gear….
Only one problem: My regular vehicle was a 1967 VW Beetle with a standard transmission and a clutch. The GTO was an automatic so there was no clutch, just an extra wide brake pedal.
The GTO had pretty good brakes and we laid four streaks of rubber for a good 50 yards.
Fortunately the car owner didn’t make me walk home

My ONLY complaint is that it doesn't have stops when it reaches Park and Drive but can keep spinning,. Not a huge issue. But a bit aggravating nonetheless. The other vehicles other than the Maverick, escape, Bronco sport trio that use the rotary shifter have stops at park and Drive. It simply feels better when it stops turning. As a result of this design, I sometimes end up in the wrong gear during maneuvers where I have to shift back and forth between drive and reverse. I sometimes overshoot reverse and end up in park. If there was a stop. I'd immediately know I'd overshot and would avoid trying to unknowingly back up while in park. ,

Mine has a stop for park. Is no stop in park a hybrid thing?

EDIT: I'm wrong about the park stop. See post #181

I didn't pay attention in the EcoBoost Mavericks . But I noticed it in the Bronco sport too on Friday at work. Not sure if it's all years or just some
