Great thread, I finally picked up my new maverick Thursday, I added the wiring per the great writeup by Telemachus and the generic actuator exactly as shown by Doburden. Cost only about $20 in parts vs $150 for OEM. Thanks for sharing!

If anyone is interested into experimenting a bit, here is what you'll need, aside from the actuator of course:
1x Molex 34975-2100 (Actuator Connector)
2x Molex 033468-0004 (Connector Terminals)
2x 18AWG 815mm Automotive Rated Cable
2x Molex 33012-3002 (Harnes to Harness Side)
1x Push to Fit Cable tie compatible with 6.5x12.5mm slot OG P/N is 157-00371 from HellermannTyton but that is too much...

Work with the instructions on the posts, make sure:
- Actuator Pin 1 :: Harness Pin 10
- Actuator Pin 2 :: Harness Pin 11

And you have an almost OEM harness for like 10 bucks

I just added this to my XL. One thing I noticed is that it is much harder to turn the key to unlock/lock if you need to manual lock for whatever reason. Did I install it correctly or is that just the way it is? Seems like the key is forcing the solenoid to move and causing alot of resistance.

I'm quite sure I never used the key again after I installed this.

And most likely, neither will you.

So I’ve seen other actuators online and it seems like a generic part for ford trucks since 2015 and go for $60 forOEM. Saw an aftermarket on amazon for $35. I’m gonna give it a shot see how that goes.

I bought the OEM actuator, but could not bring myself to pay $50 for the cable when all I need is 2 wires connected. I got to looking at other devices that use the actuator side molex and found that Tacoma 2020+ bed light kits come with 2 of them. You can find those for $10 to $20 on eBay and Amazon. Hopefully I'll be able to repurpose the lights too.

I got it working using the Tacoma bed light connector. The wire was a slightly smaller gauge but I soldered and heat shrinked the connections. If you are like me and a borderline hoarder, do not try to use slightly thicker wire for the Molex connector under the bed. It gave me fits trying to get everything in the correct place. I almost gave up, but finally found some proper gauge wire. Other than fishing the wires back through the tailgate, it went real smooth after that.

Thanks for all the great info on how to do this!

I followed the instructions from Doburden and now have an electric tailgate lock in the tailgate! Done this for under $10 and that includes the cost for two actuators.

Anyone in Wichita that needs an actuator to add it to their truck?

Telemachus,
$45+ for the wire harness?

I'm positive you could just purchase two pins to add to the existing harness if you don't want to use wire taps... Can you show a picture of the original harness you took out?

WPT1314 are pretty easy to find if you want an OEM plug for the actuator.
Telemachus,
Do you happen to still have extra pins? I would be happy to buy a few of them from you. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to send a private message.
Thanks,
Woodly 😁
